I'd say go with the crucial as well. I think corsair made some similar 'bling RAM' quite a while back, but I don't know if they carried it on to the DDR2 generation.

Hey Guys,
Here's that link, Ray, to the review that I had remembered showing the 512 outperforming the 1gig on one game. I was wrong. I looked at it again just now, and there was one game that showed the 512 way ahead, but I see now, he couldn't get the frame rate lock to unlock for the 1 gig board - other than that the 1gig outperforms the whole way through as you would expect.
The reviewer does his best to ensure repeatability, but he uses a testing method that consists of actually playing a scene and then trying to replay it the same way.
He also compares the crossfire setup for the 1 gig, the 512mb, the 8800, and another nvidia. The crossfire in general does not seem to give that much added performance. Here's the review:
1gig 2900 vs 512mb 2900
THE BF2 MATCHUP
Hey regarding the matchup, kardson (Travis) disappeared again. I see we have your instant messenger handle back there somewhere on the last page - but I take it you don't have Travis' yet. When we get the two of you on the same battlefield together, looking at the same stuff, then the framerate comparison between the omega drivers and the ati drivers will be a quite informative.
Raymond, re-edit screenshot???
(Hey Ray, I echo Abuzar - do you think you could take that screenshot on the last page - thanks a lot by the way - the minimum specs were quite interesting - I need a bigger Hard drive! - and drop it down to 760 pixels wide, so that last page would be easier to navigate without using the horizontal scroll bar?)
Cumon Sam, you know that Crysis is going to play great! I see with a minimum of 9800 pro they will switch to a shader 2.0 mode if the hardware doesn't do shader 3.0. That's how Valve does it to sell more games.
Of course, MOH Airborne is also an EA game. I wonder if those guys will release a shader 2 version in which case I might limp along with my x850xtpe for a while - although I just received the 1600rpm scythe and I think my case is well-ventilated and ready for the Gecube finally!
Hey, Ray, I think they should get you a system if you maintain A's and B's. Good for your parents! I know what Abuzar was saying, getting beaten for a B, I came from that type of setup. But I like your parents' approach better!

Oh man, that sucks... Sorry for you....
I will try to re-edit that screen shot. (you mean make it smaller right?) And post it soon, or at least take the important part from the screen that lists the recommended specs and post that... And thanks for the link, I will read up on it now.
And regarding the BF2 matchup, kardson, if you would pm me you email address or something, we can get togeather on a server sometime this week or possibly weekend, I am free after 5pm EST mon-fri, so we can do it when ever suits your time.

I may very well take you up on the FEAR later this week Abuzar, having played through the single player twice (once on hard, once on extreme), and extraction point on extreme, I'm back in the swing of it.

Yeah the multiplayer is free, so install it and we'll have a afterdawn match lol. Or you could play Halo 3. Sam I actualled managed to nab a copy last night, after bitching about now being able to get it.
If you want single player there is always bittorrent!

Well yeah, I knew that from a while ago... But, they only give the keys to their subscribers, and there is only 1 batch of keys left. I spend about 2.5 hours looking for keygens, keys or anything I can get my hands to get Crysis Beta on my computer... But nothing.
Oh well, guess we'll just have to wait till october 26 (I think thats the date) to download the demo...
Btw, Company Oh Heroes is great with the x1950xt, just on high/some medium settings. I ran it for about maybe an hour, and once things start to heat up, I get around 6-10fps, which is fine for a RTS I guess. Also, while I was playing, I had ATi Tray Tools running and after I found out that while playing, I ran out of video ram... Hopefully the 2900XT with 1GB of vram will help that...
last thing, when I turn all the details to max, and run the stress test, it runs fine... I mean some lag here and there, but no shutdowns or frames that stop. BUT, when I play a single player match, I only get about 1 fps, which is SUPER laggy. Why is this that I get ok in the stress test, but then when I play, it runs very slow?

It might be because your RAM is too slow. Same kinda thing happened to me with FEAR. The test ran fine but that game was laggy as hell, so I overclocked my RAM and it started running fine.

I got my Crysis key @ 1:30pm
and now there are no more left..
Can't wait till I get home to install it!
if your a MMO fan check out Tabula Rasa on Fileplanet.com as well.
Looks like a kick as game and the system requirements are pretty high :) so it should be BEAUTIFUL!

Nah, rubbish. I used to use standard PC3200 (Value RAM as well) and company of heroes ran fine, like it does for my friend who has PC3200, not overclocked.
What settings are you using?
I semi-disagree about the 'beautiful' because of the high system requirements. It will run badly, so you'll have to use a lower resolution and detail settings. It'll look good, but lower res means worse graphics, it's a trade off!

I don't know Sam, it worked for me. I was using all max except for soft shadows. The ONLY thing I did was OC the Ram.

kardson, you got a key!?!?!? Damn, I want one SO BADLY!!!!!! Oh my god... I want one......
Can you give us some benchmarks since you have the x1950xt too?
By the way, can keys work for more than one copy of the game, or do you have to use the same .exe for them?

It seems obvious to me that two keys spotted online at the same time would result in a d/c for one or both players.

well I know that we're not supposted to talk about this, but what I meant was for kardson to send me the key, and a copy of the .exe he used to install Crysis Beta.
Btw, this is kinda weird... I was just playing World In Conflict demo, and on high settings (no AA/AF though) and the clocks were standard, I think they're 499/594, and the game played better with those than the high 648/702. Why is this?

I think Sam is right - to unlock the beta, they'll register the key, and then you'll pop up, Ray, with Travis' key. You'll both get the boot. (Well Sam, how will they get the d/c - they'll be playing offline - is it going to check online each time they play - well maybe yes.) Patience, my good man! Maybe Travis will post a screenshot!
Travis that's too bad about your daughter. I don't blame her for being grumpy. How'd she do it, skating? Ouch! Poor kid! Well, all the kids will autograph her cast and she'll feel better!

Ray, I downloaded your screen shot and cropped and reduced it.
If you edit your post on the previous page, and use this image statement in place of the one you used before, then that page will be fixed for future reference!

Post fixed :)
I WANT THAT CRYSIS BETA!!!! I dont want to wait, because by the time its released (I think sometime in November) I will probably allready have my new pc... I dont know if I should trash the one I have now, or keep it running. (I am going to recycle some parts, like the 2 HDDs, the optical drives, the TideWater, and some other PCI slot cards, as well as the case.)

Hey Waymon, the last page is waaay easier to go through with that post fixed - good job.
Man, Ray, you said summer, and somehow I was thinking next summer. You're gonna get that system soon!!! You lucky dog!!
Look, if you play the crysis beta now it's probably loaded with bugs - let Travis help work it all out so by the time you get it, it will be superlative - just the right thing to break in your new rig with. Besides, what's the big deal, "it's just a tech demo" anyway, to quote . . . . . let's see, who said that - oh, right, SAM! of course! Lol!
TECH DEMO!!
Sam, I know you're not convinced, because of the trailers up to this point, but all the game sites think it will grab the number 1 spot really quick after it passes beta in November. Think about those Crytek guys in Germany. They've worked on the game all this time, you know it's gonna be spectacular. (And Dinc says he won't get it - he'll get it just like all of us!! :-)

Ray, maybe you overclocked it so high that it isn't REALLY stable, thus giving you lower performance.
P.S. Man if your video card was PCI-E I would buy it off you.

Or maybe by the time you've alt-tabbed to see the graphics clocks on the card, they're 2D mode, which they will be, because you've alt-tabbed to the desktop, when you go back into the game, they'll go back up to 648/702, and they always were.
