I am curious, does anyone know why external burners are so much more expensive than internal burners? Other than ease of installation, is there a performance/durability difference in the two? I do really want to crack open my Dell tower to replace the burner that is in there but I don't want to spend almost twice the money for an external burner either. Any suggestions?

Get yourself to a pc shop and ask them if they can fit an internal dvd rewriter for you. Don't think they charge too much for installation
