PS2 DVD Playback Problem

Hi everyone

Have just started having problems with playing back DVDs in the PS2.

The PS2 has been modded with the Subzero2 chip about 6 months ago.

Have had no problems up until last week. My son went to play a DVD and the DVD started playing OK. After about 3 minutes into the movie it stuttered and momentarily froze and went back to the main movie menu.

Pressed play again and same thing happened. Went to another scene in the DVD, same again. Plays for a few minutes then goes back to main movie menu.

Tested and this happens with both the original DVD and the backup, and for several different movies. Played them on the DVD player and the movies work fine so it only on the PS2 where the problem is.

Never had this problem before. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

Sounds like crap media issue to me. Out of curiosity, how fast did you burned?

I took the PS2 apart and cleaned the laser today so I'll see how it goes tonight.

One of the DVD's is only about a year old and I couldn't see any scratches on it, gave it a good clean. I made a backup copy thinking it couldhave been the original and that had the same problem.

Am using Taiyo Yuden discs to make the backups and burning at x4 speed.

Am thinking now I should just buy a cheap DVD player for my sons room and he should just use the PS2 to play games!!!

Back again!!!

No luck, cleaned the laser and still doing the same thing. Seems to do it with both the original and the backup.

Games are not a problem though, they play perfectly and no glitches.

Any ideas from the experts out there as to why this is happening and what I can try.

Can't say why but my slim PSTwo is a bit sketchy when it comes to movies too. Mostly on the back ups, not the originals.
I can use good media and get a good burn and still have parts where the movie will have skips or video problems. When i play the same movie in my DVD player it will play fine 95% of the time. There are time of course when it was just the copy that was bad.
I think you may just want to get the cheap DVD player for movies.
It will also save laser life on the PSTwo. Just for kicks try slowing the burning speed down to the slowest setting you can like 1X. Also you may want to add what program you use to copy them.
It is most likely that the laser needs adjusting, but i can not say for sure. Mine will also play games just fine.
