First off it would be helpfull if you made a better title for your thread other then (help) Try to be more specific like (What Version is scph39003 PS2) That way people will bebale to know if they can help out or not by the title.

Below is a guide on what version PS2 you may have.

It seems yours is a UK unit. Well under what number you have gave scph39003 there are diffrent versions of that unit. You will need to know the Bios version as well to find out what version you have.

V7 SCPH 39003 (UK) (GH-019 & GH-022) (BIOS 080)

V8 SCPH 39003 (UK) (GH-019 & GH-022) (BIOS 090)

I have a version 12 and can use either or. I actully use DVD+R because that is what works best for me. Iv seen some people say DVD-R works better for them. So really what you need to do is get good quility Media and see what works best DVD-R or DVD+R and once you find out what Brand and format of media works best on your system stick with it.

What works on my system night not necisarly work on yours. So you need to really find that out yourself. I have my PS2, Xbox and GameCUbe modded and they all use diffrent media. But the 1 commen thread is GOOD Quility Media.

DVD-R is what both my V7 and V12 have worked best with.
Good quality media is also required.
Philips,TDK,Verbatim,Taiyo Yuden,Ritek, Maxcell
those are some of the most popular.
i suggest you get some good 8X DVD-R, burn at 4X
Buy them in small packs at first until you find one that
works best, at the very least 95% of the time.
Also make sure you read up on how to burn games instead of wasting
DVD's, there are plenty of posts and guides here if you search.
Make sure your burner has the latest firmware available.
Make sure when burning that you shut down any other program
that could be running in the backround like Instant Messanger
programs and antivirus software. Also do not use the PC at all while
burning games.

Just a few basics on game burning.
