Then stick with the MAXELL DVD-R and DVD+R (made in japan) or the FUJI DVD+R (made in japan), which is Taiyo Yuden media.

Rebuild SWBF2 with Expert. I've posted it in the PM you sent me.

Rebuild DQVIII with my rebuild guide.

94. Q. I can't get my backup of Dragon Quest VIII to work with Swap Magic, how can I get it working correctly?
A. This isn't a definite fix for this game, because I haven't tested it with Swap Magic. I rebuilt and it plays perfectly on my modded PS2. I need some guinea pigs with Swap Magic lol. Anybody who has tried to get this game working without any luck, feel free to try my method. I simply rebuilt the game with Nero and IsoBuster. You do have to overwrite the DMYDATA file, if you're using Swap Magic. Hope this helps some of you who can't get it working.

Things you'll need:
1. A DVD Burner.
2. 8-10GB's of free Hard Drive space.
3. A copy of the game iso (either from an original or one you downloaded).
4. DVD Decrypter: http://www.filehippo.com/download_dvd_decrypter
5. Nero: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/n...
6. IsoBuster: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/isobuster.cfm

1. Insert your copy of the game in your DVD-ROM drive. Open DVD Decrypter. Decrypt the game to your HD with DVD Decrypter. Click MODE-->ISO-->READ, then Click Decrypt. Once that's done, create a new folder on your desktop. Right click on the desktop. Go to New-->Folder. Name it DQVIII.

2. Open IsoBuster. Click File-->Open Image File. Browse to the DQVIII iso you just decrypted. Double click it.

3. You'll see all the game files open in IsoBuster. Hit ctrl+A and right click on the files. Click extract objects. Select the DQVIII folder you just created on your desktop as the destination. It'll take 10 to 15 mins for the extraction process to finish.

4. Once the process is finished, open the DQVIII folder. Right click in an unoccupied section of the folder. Click New-->Text Document. Double click the new text document. Once it's open, tap the space bar once. Go to File-->Save as. Browse to the DQVIII folder. Click on the "save as type" box. Select all files from the drop down menu. Double click the DMYDATA folder. Windows will tell you the DMYDATA file already exists and ask if you want to replace the existing DMYDATA file. Click yes. The new DMYDATA file should be 1 byte. Now if you still have a new text document in your DQVIII folder after overwriting the DMYDATA file, delete it. If it's still there, you must delete it. If it's not there, then move on to the next step. Here is a list of files that should now be in the root directory of the DQVIII folder (If the files aren't in this order, it doesn't matter. When rebuilding with Nero and IsoBuster, the order of the files doesn't matter):

1. BIN
2. MODULES
3. MOVIE
4. DATA2.DAT
5. DATA2.HD6
6. DATA.DAT
7. DATA.HD6
8. DMYDATA (should read as 1KB in windows, after overwriting it).
9. SLUS_212.07
10. SYSTEM

5. Close IsoBuster. Open Nero Burning ROM. If you can't find it, you may not have Nero Burning ROM installed. You need Nero Burning ROM for this, smart start won't work. Under New Compilation select DVD from the drop down box. Click on DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO), it's the last option. Click new. Open the DQVIII folder if you haven't already. Hit Ctrl+A. Once all the files are highlighted, right click them and click copy. Now right click in Nero and click paste. Once all the files are in Nero, click the burn icon. Make sure that "no multisession" is checked under the Multisession tab. Make sure "write" is checked under the Burn tab. Set the write speed to 4x. Burn to quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, as always. Click Burn. Once the disc is done, it should be 3.84GB's. This should work, but I can't garuntee it will with Swap Magic. I hope that it does. If you follow my guide, I believe that it will. Swap Magic users give this a try and lemme know how it goes. Good Luck!

one thing could be the speed 16x. acoording to the forum here, the ps2 loves 8x discs burnt at 4x.

and if ur ps2 is happy with maxells then stick to it.

k tokijin. just a note that dragon quest 8 works w/o rebuilding ,but, the sceans where u say open a door or somthing takes longer than the next. Would that be a problem that needs rebuilding? I dont get it. Is it because the game dont work is that why u have to rebuild it? Or because it skips and stuff while playing? Sometimes it sounds like the disk i s gunna stop then restart. little things like that. I dunno how much a laser moves with a ps2 game in , i just dont want to burn the laser out.

Also those maxells where backedup when i had my version 9 ps2. So i dont remember what speed they were or what the read speed was or the write speed. How do i find out? I know i burned them with dvd decrypter. They dont say on the disk what they are all they say is maxell dvd+r 2hrs4.7 and the dvd -r says dr47 single sided. And i got memorex at 4x 4.7 which i backed up transformers and drakenguard and they work.

ty for the help

I don't know of any way to find out what speed you burned the disc at after the fact. That's why it's best to always burn at one speed, so you can remember. I burn DL discs at 2x and DVD-5 disc at 4x. I have 4 copies of DQVIII, I just think it has some annoying load times. How long are you talking, longer than 15 seconds or so? I notice a delay when I cast Zoom or use a Chimera Wing.
