I get the same problem but only with the Swap Magic discs themselves. My backups play fine, my originals play fine. But put in Swap Magic(3.6) and it sounds like the PS2 is going to kill itself. BTW my week-old Swap Magic discs have some sort of paint peeling off of them(and a smudge of it on the data-side of the disc too). EXTREMELY cheap quality.

Gocybershop. I'm Canadian and so are they, if that makes any difference. I've talked to them and it sounds like exchanging will be no problem. I just hope the next disc is better quality.

I've only ordered from Gocybershop.ca. My swap magic was defective, I returned it last week, and am waiting for the replacement.
I got swap magic 3.6 and a fliptop for 39.95 total, that includes taxes, shipping(ups) and whatnot.
The discs were defective and obviously cheaply made - paint peeling off the front, and things(I don't know what, but possibly the same paint that's peeling off the front) stuck on the data side. They came in no case, just the cheap paper sleeves. The fliptop is slightly warped, I have sit to the phone book on top of my ps2 to make the lid close flat. I'd love to know if these issues happen with all swap magics and fliptops, just gocybershop's, or just mine.

no, you can burn a copy of SM to use it you would need a mod chip or SM so it would defeat the purpose

well back to your main question, i use swapmagic with keys, and i used to get that clicking sound only on crap media, the reason was the size of the media (or something) it was actually hitting the ps2 disk stopper, causing a noise after adjusting the magic key piece a bit the disk stopper stopped hitting the crap media and worked fine.. hope that helped

Yeah I just think there's defective presses of Swap Magic. This is a fairly common problem. If you're using a flip top, try reinstalling it. There are some horrible flip tops, I had one. It was terribly off center. Try cleaning the your laser with a Q-tip and rubbing Alcohol. What's the Media ID on those discs you're using?
74. Q. I turn on my PS2, the disc spins and makes a "clicking" sound. It says "disk read error" in my browser, what do I do?
A. This could be a sign your laser is dirty or scratched. Clean it with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol if you think it might be dirty, also be sure to check it for scratches. Fat PS2 v.1-11: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/ps2diy/ Consult the links listed earlier in this thread for info. This could also be a sign your game is dirty or scratched. You can clean it with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth or tissue. Only apply a couple drops of rubbing alcohol on the disc, 4 or so evenly spaced. You may want to use an eye dropper for this. Rub it with a lint free cloth or tissue in a non circular pattern until it's dry. Your other option is to buff out the surface scratches with on the disc with a "Game Doctor." I came across a $20 Memorex cleaning device at Wal-Mart which basically does the same thing. It worked wonders for my scratched Breaker Pro disc. The Game Doctor will set you back around $40. If the scratches are too deep, this won't make any difference. If you get the "clicking" sound with a backup, all these same things apply. Also MAKE SURE that your not using cheap media. Again check the links posted earlier in this FAQ. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
Good PS2 disc read error article: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Hey, if your Canadian; modchip.ca has C.O.D. and is situated out of Halifax (if you live in the area you can pick up at the door). It's $29.99 for the both dvd/cd of Swap Magic 3.6+. Both came to me in *perfect condition and are still in perfect condition after 4 months of extreme daily use. Just another option!
*I accidentally spilt milk on the dvd disc (long story...) but after a little cleaning with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth it is back to normal.
(sorry if posting websites is against rules. I'm not sure if it is - if so, im sorry and will remove a.s.a.p)
