Hello,

I'm new here and was wondering if anyone knew the optimal burn speeds for Taiyo Yuden 16X DVD-R Media (4.7GB Silver Thermal Lacquer). I just ordered some, and I look forward to burning these and seeing what everyone is talking about. :-) Thanks in advance for your help.

4X works best regardless of the media's speed rating. There are fewer problems in general using the slower speed.

That being said, the best way to know what works for you is to try it for yourself.

If you do get an error while burning above 4X and post a problem here, then the first thing folks are going to tell you is to slow your burn speed down to 4X!

I do mine on the same media at 4X mostly but have success at 8X as well.
I find no visible difference in the quality with either speed.

fasfrank is of course correct. But, the rule of thumb is, only burn at half the max rated speed of the drive, however, when in doubt burn at 4X.
