First, load up the code breaker like normal, then select the codes and boot swap magic when it asks you to put in the game. Then swap the swap magic disc with your backed up game as usual when swap magic loads.

The whole point of swap magic is tricking the ps2 in thinking that the dvd drive is still closed. Codebreaker always checks if the game inside the ps2 is a ps2 disc or not, so of course it's gonna lock up on you if you put in the back up. However, if you put in swap magic, it reads it as a ps2 game and loads fine. When swap magic boots, the codes are still on and when you swap the discs and boot up the back up, the codes are still on also.

Has your slim line ps2 had any modifications done to it (like a modified flip-top or magic switch)? If so, that may be the problem. If the ps2 thinks that it's still closed and you put in a DVD game, the TOC size may be too big for the ps2 to boot, since it thinks that the codebreaker disc is still in there. To solve that, you need to refresh the TOC size by putting in the swap magic DVD (i'm assuming your using the DVD driver) and allow the ps2 to know that the drive is open and close it again. I don't know how you would do that, because if you unmodify it then you're gonna need another way to boot the game via swapmagic. I'm a v7 PS2 user and I don't have any experience with the slim line ps2, but I'm thinking that's what you do. With a v.7 PS2, you can use both the fliptop and the regular eject button.

I own a v12 myself + SwapMagic v3.6. If you hit reset, it will want an original game disc to read the boot code, don't do that. What SM does is load the boot code, so your game will play. The Codebreaker has its own boot code, so you can put in SMv3.6 (which loads a special "Universal" boot code) and then your backup disc afterward. Older GameSharks use to be able to let you play a backup w/out SwapMagic, but $ony jumped on them & they removed the exploit.
Since you need the magic keys (look in my sig) to cover the 3 sensors, you can remove one of them temporarily. I never need to do that, though.

if you're a college student, do NOT settle with the RIAA http://tinyurl.com/37oz2z
