Am i a victim of progressive scan???

I just recently purchased a westinghouse LVM-37w1 and I am having a hard time getting movies to look good.

I just downloaded the windows 1080p movies and it looks like crap.

I am getting a very grainy 'bright' picture when viewing these videos. No matter what video seetings I choose (on the monitor) I can't make it look good. So I think it may be overscanning! I also tried playing regular DVD's with the same results, a very bright painful looking picture.

How can I get my computer/monitor to play these high def video and DVD's poperly? I have played with all the setting and the PQ is still horrible.

I have all the necessary hardware
6800gt
2gig ram
amd64 3500+
hdtv lcd screen 1920x1080p (set at this res)connected by DVI to DVI

Thank You
p.s. Posted this in another forum (I thikn the wrong one)

If this problem doesn't occur with a standard monitor then either the Westnghouse is flawed or it is just a piece of crap. I typically don't recommend the Westinghouse for anyone.

Reffer to this page for more info about playing WMV-HD movies:

I tried the VGA to the VGA and 'viola' a great picture at 1920x1080p.

So I believe it was something that my video card's DVI output and the monitor did not agree with. Wish I knew what that was.

What type of DVI output does your card have? DVI-A, DVI-D, or DVI-I?

I didn't know VGA could handle 1080p.

I realy dont know the type of DVI port my card has. Do you think that may be the issue with the PQ through the DVI port?

I guess my video card is capable of up to 2048x1536 resolution.

When I unhooked the DVI and hooked in my VGA and booted up my comp it auto configured my display settings and in the properties it states I am running at 1920x1080p. I wouldn't know if that is what is actually being shown because my eye isn't that trained. However the PQ is looking pretty damn sweet to me through the VGA.

THanks

What I mean is that I know the VGA resolution is no where near high def quality but I don't know if the connection can support higher resolutions or not.

I do know that if your not using a digital connection then your not seeing high-def. Since the Windows movies are DRM protected you must use a connection that is HDCP complient. Only DVI and HDMI can be HDCP complient. If your not using an HDCP complient connection then the best resolution possible is 480p! 480p looks amazing when it is derived from a high-def source.

Yep you sure can. I now know too. I still think HDCP has a role to play with the WMV-HD though. Maybe its a driver thing with your video card. I would still investigate why the DVI on your video card isn't working with the DVI on your tv.

Thanks Ced I appreciate it.

I have been experimenting with different drivers etc... and nothing seems to work out. I still get the bad picture. I am coming to believe that my video card (6800gt)is faulty in the DVI port. I can hook up a DVD or some sort of digital cable box through the DVI and see if it may be the monitor, so I think that is going to be my next step.

I will enjoy what I have at the moment.

I think your Westy has two DVI ports, but only one of them accepts 1080p input. Have you tried using the other DVI port?
