Im buying a new computer as some of you might now from helping me find a graphics card in an earlier thread, and i dont quite have the money to purchase a monitor along with it so now to the question. If i were to use an old monitor from a compaq maybe 6 or 7 years old would it work on this new computer until i could gather the money to purchase a LCD monitor? If thats to old i can swap the monitor on my dell which is only about 3 or 4 years old. thanks for your help.

The monitor should work, it's just the quality of the screen might be a bit lacking. What type of monitor is it, model numbers, etc.?

the old compaq= Presario MV500 Model # 315U

Dell-dimension 4600 model # E772c

and btw some of my friends like gate way and some of them dont. im getting this comp. from best buy so i dont think it really matters but do you think that maybe because its a ''gateway'' that it wont last as long cuz when you get down to it all computers have the same stuff inside them....to an extent. anyway thanks for your opinion and help with the monitor.

Either monitor should work but it looks like the Dell is the way to go.

I also believe you hit it on the head about it doesn't really matter. Just like how we've been told about ourselves that it's what's inside that counts... same thing with computers! Spec's are what we need to look at, not the brand name. :)
