Okay...I cant my 360 to find th IP on my computer...my computer is using linksys but its the computer with the PCI card not router....so i put the staright thru cable in the back on my computer(ethernet slot)....and its not finding anything on the xbox...help please

Are you connecting a network(cat-5) cable to your xbox 360 at all?
The xbox 360 is not wireless ready. Even if it was, you would still need a wireless router close by that you can connect to.
The new wirless adapter for the xbox 360 is a hundred dollars or you can use the old method(ethernet bridge/gaming adapter)that was used on the original xbox. If your not going wirless and you dont have a router or hub you'll need to unplug the network cable from the pci network card on your computer and plug it into your xbox 360.

no, i have an ethernet cable going from the 360 to the computer...but the computer with the ethernet cable hooked up to it is recieving signals from a router upstairs.and my cord isnt long enough for that kind of thing. i think i need to port forward but i dont know how.

You need to hook your 360 into the router, hooking it into your computer will not give you an internet connection. Port forwarding will not help you either.
