What is the f*** is GEN?

I've tried a couple of code calculaters and they all ask for the GEN of the phone. I've got absolutely no idea what that is.. Griffin? Prodigy? Sounds like a mix-tape to me.

Could anyone enlighten me please as I really want to get my phone unlocked. Already one try down and paranoid to attempt anymore.

Or if anyone has some codes they know will/should work that would be good also.
