Being new at the torrent thing I would like some help.
I'm using Windows XP S2 and a Speedtouch 580 router.
Going to my network connections I get a wireless network connection and a 1394 net adapter connection.
I've tried to make a static IP address with portforward.com, but at the TCP/IP properties frame I only see blanks.
So I typed my default gateway address in my browser to get in touch with SpeedTouch. I looked around there and under System info/service info I read the following:

IP Addresses/Netmasks xx.xx.xxx.xxx/xx

Primary DNS 194.109.104.104

Secondary DNS 194.109.6.66

Are these the adresses I need?
And am I right in assuming I have to fill them in at the wireless network connection and not the 1394 network connection?

I'd prefer to check with some pro's instead of blundering in and spent hours on undoing my mistakes again.

You know Bird7 there's just something about your lack of helping and banter posts that just isn't cool.....

Anyways, marleenjg

To set up a static ip address you're going to want to go to the control panel and open network connections. Then right click on your local area connection, or in this case your wireless router. Go to properties.

From there you should be able to see something like 'internet protocol (tcp/ip)' in the list of connections. Hightlight that one and click on properties.
It is in there that you can enter all the information needed for the static ip address.

Your ip looks good but your dns servers look like they're defaulting to the router dns'.

Go here for a more thorough explanation.

Oh and one more thing: edit your post and take off the ip address. Not good to toss it up.

Further, since you're using a router, you'll have to do port forwarding.

Head here for more info:

Thnx, I'm using that guide, but I'm trying to figure out where to find the adresses to fill in there, because - unlike the guide - all the fields are grey. Oh well, back to the site of SpeedTouch.
And yes, I know I have to port-forward. I figure I'm busy for weeks,as I have also McAfee and Norton, sigh.

You will be able to find out the proper dns servers by two methods:

1) Connect your computer directly to the modem and in the command shell type: ipconfig/all
Your dns servers should show up.

2) Log into your router (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or something like that depending on your router. From there, in one of the tabbed menus it should list your dns servers.

:)
