hi wondering if you could offer any help with my problem..

for a while my ps2 has refused to read certain backed up ps2 games. For example itll read game A fine but it wont read game B at all. Itll only read game B 1/50 tries, and Im positive theres nothing wrong with the disc because it does this with a wide variety of games. The discs it isnt reading have all worked before with no trouble too so im not sure what to do. It will read real ps1/ps2/dvd's and backed up ps1 games fine but not certain backed up ps2 games. Im not sure what kind of modchip I have, but to read any kind of disc I have to first open the tray, put the disc in, hold the reset button until it turns red, then hold the reset button again for a few seconds, and itll load automatically.. any help would be great, thanks

At first I was gonna suggest you clean your laser.. but I think your chip is the problem. PS2 chips usually have on and off modes, which are triggered by seqential or normal button pressing actions.

For example, a friend of mines switches his chip off, by starting up the PS2 by holding the on (green button) button for 5 seconds.

You're best bet is finding out what chip you have, and looking it up on google, so you can see what triggers your chip on and off.

It could also be the media you burned the games with, for example if you used memorex to burn a game and its 1-3 years old the dvd might have died out...

I'd tend to agree with Knivez. The fact that several of your backups are failing could be an indication of rapidly degrading media. 3-1 odds it's CMC Mag media. What's the Media ID?

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Hmm.. I was gonna mention the media but it was the fact that he mentioned it worked eventually after many tries that put me off.. sorry about that!
