Hi,
This has happened to me several times now, and though I've dealt with it in the past, it's a pain and I was wondering if there was a way to fix this...

When I plug in my external hard drive, it (usually) comes up as (E:). But every once in a while, it'll change to something further down the alphabet...now it is (H:). I assume my computer must be getting it confused, thinking it's a whole new drive. The problem is when I go to listen to music or play games, since it screws up the 'path' and says (E:) does not exist...

IS there a way to switch the 'letter' back to something else? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading and your time :)

I once had a problem with a drive changing to H, in this case it was a floppy disk. I think it had something to do with a virtual CD program I had. If you have one, unless it's really necessary, remove it. If you don't, check that there isn't anything else that occupies the E letter. I think you can only reserve a partition letter with a partition manager program.

The link above will help you since it covers all three scenarios:

How to assign a drive letter
How to change a drive letter
How to remove a drive letter

I have a folder in Outlook titled "How To" which I keep handy for just such a situation.
