I have bought every gaming console that has come out but I keep getting mixed reviews about this darn console. Yes, every console has positives and negatives, but theres always a large population that chooses one side either its a good or a bad console. With XBOX 360, its driving me mad. All the asian are saying no, all of the microsoft lovers are saying yes, some of the people who arent either of those other two are saying yes and no. I am hearing about faulty xbox's with malfunctions that have come out. Also, what's the deal with like 9 different xbox's. The core system, premium, platinum, v1, v1.53, AH! Which one?! No company does this, they just make ONE CONSOLE for that CONSOLE. Etc. etc. etc. If I am convinced I will go buy one for sure. Wait for the PS3 people say. That could take half a year or MORE. Same with the revolution. But as long as I have no idea, I wont get one. I need some input.By the way, if I didnt like the first xbox, would I like the new one? Your input could convice me to buy and own an XBOX 360. Then again, it could make me the opposite.

i too have owned EVERY console that has come out.. I recently bought this and I think that it is a great console.. I would nut suggest getting madden for it though because the game flat out sucks. Other than that all of the games i have played have fantastic graphics and are very stunning.. if I were you I would get one, but wait till you can get one in the store.. they are not worth paying an extra 100 to 200 dollars for it on ebay.. other than that it is a great console.. be prepared to spend a sh*t load of money.. good luck..

You should consider a few things before you choose. First:
Are you planing to run old XBOX games in your 360? If you do, get the Premium system since it comes with the HDD and the ethernet cable, that you would need to download the emulator files from XBOX Live.
Are you planing to connect your 360 to an HDTV? If you are, consider that the Core System only comes with composite AV cables, while the Premium comes with those, plus the Component cables for HDTV.
Are you going to use your 360 to view DVD's and other type of media? If you are, get the premium since it comes with the Media Remote and the HDD where you can put your favorite audio files and other content.
Are you going to play online? The Premium not only comes with the ethernet cable, it also comes with a wireless headset for xbox live and again the HDD that you would need to play online.
Also consider that the Premium comes with a wireless controller and the core comes with a USB wired controller. You could buy a Core system and buy the accesories one by one but you would spend a lot more. Here's how much.
HDD $99.99
Component Cables 59.99
Media Remote 29.99
Wired Headset 19.99
Over $200 and that's without the ethernet cable wich could cost you a few more bucks. You can also get a Memory Unit to save your game if you choose to buy a Core System, for $39.99. As for the other bundles, they are often Core and Premium systems with bundled games and stuff to make you pay more. If you find one atractive then go for it. But don't get confused, there are basically two main packages: the Core for $299 and the Premium for $399. I don't have a 360 yet, but I've been doing my research and I hope some of the lucky 360 owners around here can confirm my info and share what they know.

Yeah I bought the core and went on to buy a HDD/CONPONENT CABLE/WIRELESS CONTROLLER/HEADSET. I really wanted a premium but could not get my hands on one. O and I just bought the wireless adapter despite it being a rip-off.

like everyone else i have bought almost every console that has come to the US shores and some that havent. I loved the Xbox but im a little concerned about the 360. I've played it; yes and its does live up to its promises about graphics and power and such BUT, i dont think its worth spending 400 for the premium package at the moment. yes there is the 300 core dollar package which really comes with nothing compared to the premium but honestly once you see what the premium comes with the core package isnt worth a penny. If you wait till about september the price for the 360 will drop for both the core package and the premium package which is what im going to do because my money does grow off of trees. If you want to buy the 360 go spend the extra 400 dollars and get the premium because it comes with a lot more things(ie remote 30, headset 20, wireless conroller 50) compared to the core which comes with wired controller and the system itself.

The harddrive is external but you only have to pay for one($100 U.S.) if you buy the core system because it doesnt come with one. the premium package comes with the harddrive plus a lot of other things like a dvd remote and wirless live headset.

I love me some xbox 360...but like you said you cant honestly judge the consoles until all of them are released. Thats the one plus' of the 360 is that if it is similar to the ps3 in a positive way then you or i as a MS fan have been able to get a hella console a year before sony fans and paid $100-200 less than the ps3 its a win win situation to me because i honestly dont think the ps3 will surpass the 360's quality to a huge extent if at all...
I will say this though MS seems to catch a lot more of negative press over their hardware issues than sony. The ps2 had so many issues with its dvd drive and laser readers and that wasnt as nearly publicized as the xbox 360's overheating issues. BUt sony has been getting punished in the press lately so i guess i cant complain
