Just wondering what you guys think would be the best way to connect my new components. I ordered a Panasonic Plasma TV with only one HDMI, and I want to use the HDMI for my SAT TV veiwing, because I watch mostly TV. Also I have a DVD player, HDTV SAT receiver, and a Home Theater 7.1 reciver. All of those have HDMI and Component hook-ups. I just need to know what's the best way to hook everything up to each other to give me full time surround and the best audio / video quality. Any help is appreciated. Thanks alot.

For Video:

Connect your Satallight to your receiver using HDMI then run HDMI from your receiver to your TV. Connect your DVD player to your receiver using Component Video cables then from your receiver to the tv using compmonent cables.

-If the receiver does upconversion to the HDMI then the connection to the tv from the receiver for the DVD player will be the HDMI cable. The extra component cable from the receiver won't be needed.

-Make sure the DVD player is set up correctly for Widescreen tvs. Also, you will have to manualy turn Progressive Scanning on via the DVD players menu!

For Audio:

The Satalight box is already connected via HDMI which carries audio.

Connect the DVD player to the receiver using either digital coax or optical cables.

-Make sure the DVD player is set up correctly for digital surround.

Sorry, I lied. My Surround receiver don't have a HDMI hook-up. So, does this change the way you would connect the components ?? I need to be schooled on what upconversion is. Thanks.

The only changes are to the satallight box really.

Modified Instructions:

For Video:

Connect your Satallight to your tv using HDMI. Connect your DVD player to your tv using Component Video cables.

-Make sure the DVD player is set up correctly for Widescreen tvs. Also, you will have to manualy turn Progressive Scanning on via the DVD players menu!

For Audio:

Connect the Satallight box to the receiver using digital coax or optical (toslink) cables.

Connect the DVD player to the receiver using either digital coax or optical cables.

-Make sure the DVD player is set up correctly for digital surround.

Upconversion is the proccess by which a device improves a signal, meaning that the output signal is superior to the input signal. In your case if the receiver had upconversion to the HDMI port then all of your input signals (composite, S-Video, component video, L/R stereo, and digital audio) would be "upconverted" and sent through the HDMI cable. This proccess simplifies installation greatly.

Here is a page that explains DVD upconversion:

Thanks for the help. Now my surround receiver is a tight fit in the armoire compartment that I set it in. Where can I get a small fan to hook onto the back to blow the heat away from the receiver ?? It must be able to plug into 110 outlet. I'm having trouble finding any like this. Mybe you can send a store link or page Thanks again.
