Windows Media Player 10 Error after Audio Driver got corrupted

Ok, my audio driver got corrupted somehow and afterwards winamp and wmp 10 couldnt play mp3's. I fixed winamp by changing the output plugin after fixing the driver. However I can not get wmp 10 to work I get the error message.

"Windows Media Player cannot play, burn, or synchronize the file because a required audio codec is not installed on your computer."

The audio still works while playing video, and I can still rip cds to mp3 with wmp 10, just can not play them.

I tried fixing it by selecting the audio device for the speakers in the devices menu, but no luck. I tried re-installing but I get the error message cant update newer version found, I tried removing but still get error message, and have to install through windows component add/removal.

Any ideas?
