Any help will be appreciated.

I'm trying to burn a compilation of TV shows in avi format on one disk using Nero Burning Rom/Express. But I keep getting basically the same "Data verification failed" message. I would like to just create a data disk with the avi files. I don't think I need to or want to convert them, since they play great on the Philips 642 in the format they are in now. I can reduce the amount of files I'm trying to burn to about 3100MB+- and it will burn without errors. The media I'm using is Memorex DVD+RW. I would like find out what the problem is before I start burning TYs.

Thanks for your time.

Your DMA is off, fix it. Try this:

http://www.burstcopy.com/dma/xp/

After you do that and it still doesn't work then try this:

((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" it's driver ?for Win XP users?))

A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive
E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner?s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!

NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the ?IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers?

(A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
(B) double left click on either Secondary or Primary IDE Channel (burner's driver are usually "Secondary Channel")
(C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
***NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps.

NOTE: To verify your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers with Nero:
Open up "StartSmart", click on "Nero Toolkit", then click on "Nero InfoTool" (InfoTool will run and retrieve all drivers), now click on "Configuration" - this should show you where your DVD Burner/DVD-ROM is installed under either Primary or Secondary <--- make good note of that and you're ready to "uninstall" your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers now.

Try not to go above 4300MB when writing.

And yes, memorex is horrible media. Try either Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Sony, Fuji and maxell are ok if they are made in japan

DMA for the NEC burner is ON. Does it need to be on for the other drives as well?

I understand that these disk aren't the greatest and that I need to keep the size under 4300MB. BUT, even if I just go over 3200MB+-, I get data verification errors. To me, that points to something other than the quality and capacity.

yes the DMA has to be on, especially if you are using a different drive to rip it. And again, yes. Quality is VERY important. I can't tell you how many times I've seen ppl get failed burns and I have to tell them to change media. And you know what? Most of the time the meida change alone will fix it. I don't really know what you mean by 3100+MB. The log shows you burning to 4419MB. The reason you need to reduce it to that is because of several things. The closer to the edge teh dye gets uneven, hotter and some other things that fail me at the moment.

Thanks Guys!

Not wanting to create a bunch of coasters trying to figure this out, I went with the Memorex DVD+RW. Should have started with the TY. LOL

Burned the whole compilation on the first try at 12X! d'oh!

Memorex = PAM (Punk Ass Media)

12x? That's like CD burning speed. 4x-8x, I would never go above 8x.
