I'm looking on a couple of websites, and have noticed that the XP chips have seriously spiked in price. I mean jumped at least $25-$40 from their original price back in Oct. And some sites don't even sell XP chips anymore. What is going on with the XP chip? I see that the Semprons are even displayed on their site, and not the XP, and I know the Semprons are cheaper versions of the XP's... Does anyone have any articles that can give me a heads up on what's going on??

if u mean the AMD XP socket A then yes and have been for a long while, the 64bit Athlons are taking over with the new core AM2 comming out soon.

Or to answer your ? simply ... Yes.

Semprons are mainly for the 64bit systems but have come out on Socket A for a while but the socket A ones are also being phased out.

its not just Athlon XP processors that are being/have been phased out.

Its everything to do with socket A.

You see the semprons arent cheaper versions of the athlons infact youd be more correct to call them a replacement for the old Duron Processors as theyre not built to perform aswell as an athlon. the Athlon XPs have been replaced by Athlon 64s on a newer socket

Its getting increasingly difficult to get socket A motherboards at all and apparently even the newer socket A sempron processors will stop getting made soon. Everything is being transfered over to 64 bit.. 32 bit has been around for too long now (in computing terms) so its time for a change over..

SD has been replaced with DDR
AGP is being replaced with PCI-Express
and so 32 Bit gets replaced with 64 bit
