Hi guys I have had a very annoying problem with my dvd rw drive, I got it for christmas and it is very unpredictable, alot of the time its fails, i have wasted over 30 dvd r discs (only 15 odd have worked and i cant even burn data on ANY program) in a 2 week period, i have lost trust in the burner as it isnt reliable, I would GREATLY apreciate it if i could get an answer to why it isnt burning properlly

Try to not write anyfurther than 4300MB.

CMC mags suck more than a filipino whore, switch to either TY or Verbatim.

16x is WAY too fast. Considering that most ppl here think 8x is risky. try to keep it between 4-8x.

I'm still really new to reading these logs, but I think I've noticed a few things (someone please correct me if I'm wrong):

-Drive's firmware needs to be updated to 1.39
-DMA needs to be turned on for the DVD-RW drive
-Nero needs to be updated
-Should not be burning "on the fly"
-Should lower burn speed to about 4x, 8x max

What is the reason the pioneer is on a raid controler instead of set as master on the secondary ide controler with the dvd rom?

I think raid is for hdd not dvdr. This is from via site.

I checked the DMA link and am puzzled because on my dvdrw drive it ses dma if available selected, but in Nero info tools it ses it isnt enabled, is there a straight forward way to enable the dma

Do you know which via chipset you use such as 6410,6420, or 6421? The info for that will be under device manager then scsi and raid controllers.

You can turn the raid off in your bios but that will disable the connector the cable is hooked to on the motherboard. Sounds like your motherboard may be kinda like mine. On mine I have 4 ide type connectors and 2 sata type. For the ide type 2 of them are truely ide and 2 are raid. Yours may only have one for raid. Meaning you may only have 3 connectors of ide type but one will be raid. If you turn off the raid then the connector is not used it is just on the board for if you want to use raid.

Thats what I suggest. When I said put it on the same cable with the dvd rom.

You can even test it by unpluging the cable the dvd rom is connected to from the motherboard and pluging in the cable the burner is connected to into the motherboard where the dvd rom was connected.

Your best bet if you want to keep both them is to remove them from the computer and set the burners jumper to master and the dvd roms jumper to slave. Then put them back in the computer. Then hook the burner on the end of the data cable and the rom to the middle.

ah thanks ill give it a go coz i just noticed the ide ports are color coded 2 green 1 red, the working drive is in the only red 1 that must be the only true ide socket so if i put them both into that socket should be all good,

I would need to see the board or at least know what it is model and make to know for sure. I would guess though that green is for primary and red is secondary. Meaning you got a green primary and red secondary ide and a green primary raid. Your board may even have a red or whatever color secondary raid comeing off the side of the boarb.

So the red seems to be primary is the hard drive the one hooked to it?
The 2 greens seem to be raid and the 4 little reds by them are sata. The black one seems to be secondary ide and where I would put both the burner and the rom.

You are running pretty much the same board as mine just yours is gigabyte where mine is asus.

The black socket is a FDD socket so had no luck there, so i tried the slave and master thingy on 1 ide cable this time didint even reconize the drives, so i put it back to how i originally had it, burnt a couple of dvds but more failed, I want it so it works 100%, none of this randomly failing for no reason it is REALLY buggin me, i find it strange that it picks the dvd burner up on a raid connection,

IF ANYONE CAN HELP I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE AT THE MOMENT I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!! check the log out and see what you think

As you can see below my burner is on viamraid port 2 with dma off, if that is the issue then a fix would be great, cheers
