just out of curiousity.... what media did you use?
secondly, what dvd player do you have?
whats the exact version of Nero that you have? 6.6.0.18 is the very latest...
what speeds do you burn at?
and what burner do you have, with current firmware?
chances are, its either your media or the player is just too pickey..
i'm betting on the latter !!!

hi gear, really not sure on the exact Nero,it says on the disc Nero oem suite, it has vision express 2 on it, the media is tevion DVD+RW, and the dvd player is a 2yr old cinetec(dont know exact model, but it was cheap from asda)the burner is sony DVD RW DW-Q28A,and i dont know what firmware means(im a total novice can you tell). also the dvds do play on a technika 103 dvd player(my daughters, but they keep missing bits and jumping).I have seen in some previous threads that you can get all the info on screen so that you can see it, if you could tell me how to do this i will do that. thanks for the reply gear79 your a star.

open Nero, at the bottom right hand corner, you see a little flame, click that, it will give you your key #, versions, and info to Nero.
the media you are using is no good, most likely why it wont play.
use stuff like verbatim, sony, fuji, maxell (the made in japan ones) except verbatim, which is taiwan.
firmware is what the burner's software is... just like you update a computer, same thing !!
go here for your firmware !!!

gear,
you beat me to it.
It does look like media issue for sure.
besWICK,
Go ahead and try some of the media gear suggested. That might solve your problem right away. If any further issues, let us know.

open the program first, then open the tray, insert your blank, then close it, wait a second, then click the ID button.. you have to give it a second to initialize..

finally got some new media, i got verbatim dvd+rw:mkm-A02-000, but now these discs wont play in my dvd player(cost me &7 for 10 discs!) but now my older discs(ritek DVD+R, cost me &8 for 100!) do play in dvd player, would really prefer these verbatim to work though they look a lot better quality, have you any ideas what to do now?

dvd players wont play dvd+rw/-rw because they aren't compatable with the player. its dvd recorders which play the dvd+rw/-rw. Get some verbatim dvd+r/-r if you want them to work on your player.

@besWICK
Why do you use RW media? verbatims -/+ will give you great quality. And the +R can be booktyped to DVD-ROM and you get great compatibility. And, instead paying $7 for 10 discs, you pay $14 for 50.

i dont know why i bought rw this time to be honest i probably thought i was getting better value for money in the long run, i am just learning at present i"m very new to burning dvds, can you pls give me more info on what you mean by setting the book type to dvd-rom, and do you think my discs wont play because they are RW? and there must be a way to burn them so that i can play them on any dvd!and thanks for your speedy advice cyprusrom.

also, somewhere in any dvd burn so far the quality goes a bit hatwire, the dvd either jumps a few minutes or it pauses for a few minutes and then jumps ahead of itself, any ideas.

here is some info about booktyping, in a post wrote by Saugmon:
Quote: Booktyping is also called bit-setting. Your basic dvd formats are dvd-rom which is the pressed in original dvd format/dvd+r/and DVD-R. When it comes to dvd backups, compatability can be screwy on those drives that will play our backups.
Booktyping is the ability to alter the plus format media and turn them into the dvd-rom format. By booktyping, you are fooling those stand alones into thinking they are dvd-roms.Not all dvd burners have this ability.Benq/Plextor/Lite-on/LG/Ricoh and the rebadged drives made by those manufacturers have that ability.Other drives may need a special hacked firmware for this feature.Only the plus format can be booktyped. +r/+rw/+rDL. It all depends on your model#.
Booktyping comes in handy if you play your backups in a lot of different pc drives/game consoles/and stand alone players. Some of these can be picky as to which format they will recognize. If you encounter a stand alone player that gives a no disc inserted error, booktyping will help. It actually give you 3 different formats to find what your player/s will accept.I booktype all mine in all 3 of my benqs and they will play virtually anywhere I want. Not so fortunant on 3 other pc burners without that capability.
If you only play your backups in a couple of drives, and have no trouble with them, then booktyping is not a priority. It's always nice having that third option for stand alone compatability.

By Creaky on a previous post,
Quote: your burner's firmware probably needs updating. i see you have a Sony DW-Q28A, here's the link for the firmware - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2097
KYS3 is the latest version for this burner.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/282131 Up to date firmware is very important.
I hope this answers your first question.
For the second question:
Quote: quality goes a bit hatwire, the dvd either jumps a few minutes or it pauses for a few minutes and then jumps ahead of itself
That colud happen for different resons. Could be the encoding process, could be the burning process, burned too fast, could be the quality of your media. Check and see what firmware you have. Updating can fix many media incompatibilities.

i have definately updated firmware to KYS3 now, i"m going to try another burn to see if the quality will be any better,as for Nero drive speed i have had that down as low as 4x, but this didnt seem to make any difference, and when you open Nero drive speed you can alter cd or dvd speed but i can only alter the cd speed(does this matter i thought they were the same thing)and the speed always returns back to 48x after a burn, lets give it another go, thanks for the info cyprusrom.
