I have been experimenting with a combination of both Commercial (VOB/IFO/Menu Edit, Nero Recode2)and my own software, my goal being to take the main movie, trailer, one audio track, root and chapter menus from a DVD9 and compress them onto a DVD5. I have had relative success in playing back these discs in my settop player, including menu navigation, with the exception of one problem.
When executing a root menu call the video *sometimes* freezes, the player emits sounds ( like it is searching for a sector ), and then the Check Disc error message will appear. If I jump to a Chapter and then ( shortly ) call the root menu with the player remote, I don't experience this problem. It seems only to occur when the movie ( or Chapter ) has been allowed to play for at least a few minutes, and even more so towards the end of the disc, including the trailer VOB. This problem also includes the Call VTSM Commands at the end of the PGC's.
I am relatively sure that my programs correctly rewrite/correct the IFO and NAV pointers, maps and times, and I am about out of ideas on what is causing this problem. I was hoping that someone with more experience than myself might be able to point me in the right direction.
