I'm looking for best quality burns from dowloaded files from a ReplayTV unit. They files are supposedly already MPEG-2 format. Although you can record at different "quality" settings. I'v read so far that "medium" quality is closest/best suited for DVD burn.

If the file is already MPEG-2, how do I make sure Nero doesn't re-encode?
What burn speed (ex:2270kbps) should provide best quality burn?
Any suggestions on burn speeds matching up to record quality?
Thx.

Mpeg-2 Files Must be "Authored" to DVD useing a DVD authoring program which Creates the DVD File Structure and Formats the Files and your Menu"s and Chapter Information into a "Video_TS" folder and that gets Burned to DVD in "DVD Video" mode useing a program Like Nero....

Since these are MPEG-2 Files from a ReplayTV Unit they might not be DVD Compliant in that they Might have a Resolution (544x480) that doesn"t comply to the DVD Standard (720x480/704x480/352x480/352x240) in which case they would normally need to be Re-Encoded before any program would accept them as being DVD Compliant....

There is One Program out there that should be able to Author these Files to DVD without re-encodeing them (It doesn"t have an encoder) and it also is one of the Best DVD authoring programs but it takes a Bit to Learn...

This Program is Called "MediaChance DVDLab(Pro)" which has a Fully working 30 day demo available so you can try it and see if it works for your Files....

When you Load your Files into it it will Give you a message saying that it has to "De-Multiplex" your files which you should do and after this it will give you any Error messages about your Files DVD Compliancy and if the Resolution is Not DVD Compliant it will give you the Option to Continue anyways....

There is a Guide in the Guides section called something like "backing Up Multiple SVCD"s to DVD with DVDLab" which you can use for the DVD authoring Part of the Guide because it is the same process backing up VCD/SVCD or any MPEG-2 files to DVD with DVDLab...

This way you are Pretty Much assured that you won"t have to re-encode as this is the Only program I know of that will Make Non-Standard DVD"s from files with Non-Standard Resolutions and the DVD"s should Play in probably 90% of all Players especially the Cheaper ones....

DVDlab will give you the Option to Burn the DVD For you or you can Not let it burn the DVD and use something like "Nero" to Burn the "Video_TS" Folderto DVD in "DVD Video" mode....You should Burn your DVD"s at the Lowest speed possible for the Most Reliable Burn...
