hey all, i'm pretty new to all of this but when I copy/burn dvds (using dvd shrink) i usually get low quality ratios b/c i like having the menus and extras on the dvd...I'm planning on buying a widescreen hdtv (still not sure which kind/brand) that is at least 42" and was just wondering if the burnt dvds (because of their lower video quality b/c they are compressed)will appear crappy on the display? they look fine on my current tv which is only like 27" but i didn't know how they would appear on a larger tv? maybe i will start using dual layer discs for better quality...thx all

Howdy guy! First of all, I'm no expert on burning DVDs but I do so all the time with XCopy Platinum which compresses and they come out great and are awesome on my 42" hdtv. Again, I'm not expert but do you think you might be doing something wrong?...I mean, mine come out really great.

hey bro, I know i'm not doing anything wrong...the compressed dvds look great on my 27" tv but i didn't know how they would look on a bigger (around 50") HDTV since i do not own one I couldn't make a comparison...I just didn't know if the larger screen would make the picture look more distorted...any others plz?

Sorry I misread your post; thought you said they didn't look right on your 27. If they look great on your 27 then they should look great on your large screen. I, too, had a 27 before I got the 42 HDTV and they look even better on the 42. The DVDs aren't hi def but the picture is a lot better than say through your VCR or regular cable. I wasn't the least bit disappointed. In fact, soon, I'll be getting a DVD player with a hi-def upconverter. A buddy on the system here spoke highly of it so I checked it out and brought one of my home burnt DVDs...really awesome.

When I got my 42, the one thing that disappointed me was the picture you get from regular analog cable...I've read complaint after complaint about the same thing. It isn't aweful but it's disappointing. Perhaps because you're suddenly able to compare to hi-def? I don't know. But you sure won't be disappointed with the DVDs you burnt. If they look like they did on mine, you'll spend hours watching them like they are new movies! Best of luck guy!

I play pretty much only shrink discs in my theatre with Toshiba DLP HD projector and 106" screen. I can't tell the difference except on some very long, very compressed movies.

hi i have a sony 50" lcd rear projection HDTV and use home burned films and tv shows on it and they look great no "blockyness" on them at all.
