Hey everybody,

I just did a bunch of research on this pc to tv conversion thing and all the forums and all the people who have done it say its not even worth it if your going to use a vga to s video converter because of the bad picture quality you get. They said the best way to go is to buy a video card with a svideo port on it. Is this true?

My video card does not have a svideo so i was thinking about upgrading to one that does if this is true that the vga to svideo is bad quality.
Would this be my best option for pc to tv conversion. And also if i do get a new card, i want one that atleast matches the one i have now in quality and also has a svideo port. Anybody have any suggestions on what to get or where to get one?

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6100 graphics with PCI Express x16 expansion slot and up to 128MB shared video memory; high-definition audio (7.1-channel support)

with a Gateway 19" Flat-Panel TFT-LCD Monitor FPD1960

Thanks

i have a scart adapter that allows me to go from the svhs output on my laptop and the audio mini jack into the adapter to use the TV as a monitor. thus ableing me to watch movies

can pick up the adapter and wires you need from radio shack for quite cheap.

In the uk the peripheral A/V connectivity is done through scart leads/connectors.

i bought a scart adapter like the one [url]http://www.networldshop.com/index.php?file=productDetails&partno=...

into that i plug a svhs cable whch links to the svhs output on my laptop and also a red/white stereo audio lead which goes to the laptop for the audio. [url]http://www.astarsolutions.co.uk/products/landing/?pc=1067&r=froog...

im not sure about usa connections on tv but this is working really well for me whn wathing DivX AVI files on my 28inch tv. quality is better than i thought it would be but bviously less clear than a dvd but still excellent!

saves all the hassle of buying a DivX enabled dvd player o worse still, coverting and burning to dvd which can take hours.

hope this helps

Es

If you are serious about it, the best way is to upgrade your video card. I personally like nVidia. (Had a ATI, but it kept overheating and giving me problems) And when you buy one, get the best that your wallet can afford. (lot of memory, and speed).

I have the nVidia Ultra 6800, and I have mine run to my 65" HDTV using the S video connection. And it looks and plays great. Also, buy a very good S video cable. That DOES make a difference.

I don't know if your TV has DVI connections, but that would be another way to go, if you bought a Dual Monitor video card. I have tried mine hooked up thru DVI, but I can't adjust the ratio of the picture correctly. a 4:3 is stretched out to fit a 16:9, and it sucks watching it like that. So, I just use the S video with a good cable. Works Great!

My goal is to have continual slideshow of my digital photos on my TV whan it's not set to a TV program. Is this possible?

I just purchased (but have not opened) a Norwood Radeon 9250 PCI Video card, but maybe I should have gotten the APG version? (Both slots are available on my Dell Optiplex GX260.) Which is better?

I can't seem to find out what will happen when I connect to the TV?

Any advice will be appreciated.

hey ugc,

i dont know a whole lot about video cards, can you answer a couple questions? Ok you said get good memory and speed. What does each have to do with a monitor? Alsomy tv doesnt have dvi ports so i geuss i will try the s video way. Here i what another person has reccomended. Do you think this is a good choice? And also is this good memory and speed?

Hey UGC

Just got the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130253 card and everything seems to be working fine. As you said i need good memory and speed,Does this card have good memory and speed? and does it use its own memory or does it use the cpu's memory?

Also

I ran into one little problem though. When inserting the card i had trouble. I literally had to jam it in there, it didnt go in easy. Took me about a half hour of wiggling it and then i finaly jammed it in. Everything worked after that but my only concern is that while i was jamming it in i would take it out every once in a while to look at it to see if i messed anything up. I saw that two of the gold bars(the little gold pieces that are on the end of the card where the card goes into the slot) were half broken off. Is this going to effect anything eventually? should i send it back and get another one?

Thanks

Well a little update here.

I decided to not only play emulator games like nes and sega but have been having alot of fun playing pc games including vice city for the pc, sims and a bunch of others.

Last week i bought that 77 dollar evga 256 MB 6600le graphics card one of the people in this thread recommended to me. But that was when i told him i was only gonna be watching movies and playing ninetendo games.
Since i am going to be playing these high end 3d games, should i be upgrading my card?
If so, any suggestions?
