Hi,
I am trying to backup a home movie, which is like 4.5 GB. I have it on one dvd, and I am trying to create a copy. The burning from my computer to a DVD is just fine, it works perfectly fine, but everytime I try to copy a DVD to DVD, it burns completely fine, without any problems, but it doesn't work. After burning a DVD, you can tell how much space has been used up by looking at the bottom part of the DVD, and on the burned one, not as much was used up, there was a lot of free space left. My DVD Player and even my computer recognize that it is a DVD, but they don't play it. Now, I don't know if there is something wrong with the DVD I am burning or there is something wrong with my burner or my DVDROM. DMA is on for both burner and the ROM, and I am still encountering problems. My burner is working just great. Anyone know what the problem could be?
EDIT: Also, if I physically open the folder to the burned DVD, it shows that all the files add to the exact size of the files on the original DVD. What could be wrong?
Regards,
DiRect

Hi,
Well, my burner is LG 4163B, it's also HLDS, it doesn't say LG. I used Ritek/Ridata media, at 4x and at 8x, using Nero. No DVD Player is playing the DVD, not the computer DVD Rom or my LG DivX Player. My DVD-ROM is LG GDR8163B. I think there might be a problem with the DVD-ROM. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried doing a disc copy from disc to disc or are you ripping it to your HardDrive then burrning the disc back to your DVD?

From that statement it sounds like you attempted to play it in you standalone DVD player. If you think it is your DVD-ROM drive, try playing it in a standalone player (non-computer drive). That should give you a good indication as to what the problem is, perhaps.
Good luck,
Rich

Hi,
No, the burned copy doesn't play anywhere, the copy I am burning works fine everywhere. Also, ripping to me HD and than burning it would work just fine, as I said, I am having problem directly copying from DVD to DVD. Any more help?

Would you have DVD Decrypter? If so do a MODE/ISO/READ on the DVD your copying. Then do a MODE/ISO/WRITE to burn the disc.
Or use Nero and choose make DVD Image and have Nero make an Image file of the DVD then turn around and burn the Image file with Nero (burn image file)

You really should not be copying DVD to DVD. If you have it on your HDD then burn it with Nero to you DVDRW.
HTH,
Rich
Oops, larrylje beat me too it....fastest fingers in the West, maybe.

Hi,
That is the problem, I don't have the movie on the HD, and I don't want to RIP the DVD to the HD before I can copy it because it takes like 10-20 minutes, and I have a few DVD's to burn. It will take some time.

That is the way one is suppose to do it, DVD to HDD, then burn it to the DVD burner from the HDD!! Too many complications otherwise.
Good burning,
Rich

Copying on the fly (disk to disk) is always risky.
Much better and more reliable burns to copy from Harddrive.
