Burn seems find but at about 75% of movie I start getting pixel loss an freeze up ( very frustrating )
Could it be the blank dvd's ? I bought the 16 by dvds at costco .

it may be the media that you are using who makes the media that you have? poor quality media will cause this problem

As in media do mean the source ? rental dvd'd .Have burned a few!! in the past with no problems but the last few have died after about 75% of viewing . Have dropped the online rental sub. but have all the up dates from sly .

One other thing is some times while burning have put the promgram onto the tool baar and opened may web page to do other projects while the burn is going on and when the program is reading as well . Do you think that just doing the back up and not muli-task could be it ?

Concerened about the whole back up thing ( water spots )

Most likely to be poor quality media that you are burning to - What brand are they?

Quality media include: Verbatim, TYs and Ritek.

Crap media include: Memorex and virtually anything manufactured by CMC.

Other causes of playback/freezing problems include:
1. Burning too fast (4x recomended)
2. Use of paper labels on burnt media
3. Burning too close to the edge of the DVD
4. Multitasking during encoding/burning.
