ok so im thinking about gettin a wireless router and pci card for my computer so i can leech off my dads cable hook up, hes cool w/ it and im only talking like a 100 foot straight shot from computer to computer...if i turn around right now i can see my computer at the other end of the house. so i need to get a decent router, im thinking a linksys router 108mps 802.11g but heres my question, if i get that type of router do i need to use the same brand of pci card or can i switch, cuzi found a good router for $55 and a off brand card for like $17 but its compatabile w/ the 802.11g 108mps...should i get that for the fact its cheaper or should i go w/ both name brand units and spend like $90???? if anyone could help me that would be great im looking to do this soon and i need some input, also if anyone knows the proper settings to mk my connections "safe" please let me know we can discuss it so i dont have to have the "geek squad" come to my house and fix this.

am using a

Trendnet / TEW-611BRP / 108Mbps / 802.11g / 4-Port / Cable/DSL / Wireless Router with MIMO Technology
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details....

and a

Trendnet / TEW-443PI / 108Mbps / 802.11g / PCI / Wireless Adapter.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details....

The range is SOLID at 150' thru a ciment floor and a regular plaster partition. Has a 3 year warranty ! hard to beat TigerDirect or Newegg in the USA.

This setup replaced a Linksys that was constantly dropping the connection when someone walked around behind the wall !

You may be able to find a better price if you search with Price Grabber !

As long as the PCI adapter matches what the router needs for a signal you do not have to stay in the same brand ! In other words they have to talk the same language !

aight so jeanc1 i looked into price grabber they dont have the same unit u have but i saved the page so that ican order it that price expires in like march so i think im ok. and now if u or someone u know would be interested in sending the info on how to make ur connection secure so that idiots cant sit outside my window and use my connection or at least give me a website where i can learn how to set that up. i was told it was in the settings and the script of the router that makes it secure. if its really complitcated i just wont do it, i dont live in a big city so pretty much if i dont have it i dont think i will have to worry to much. im in the middle of no where u know the place where ur glad u even have internet. anyways as soon as i can get that info i will order that router so that i know its ready to go once i get it.

thanks again jeanc1
