Ok, i am in the market for a new TV and there seems to be so many choices these days. And of course all of them claim to be the best.
Right now i am swaying towards a DLP TV as they are suppose to be the newest and best picture technology. My friend said he has an LCD TV and that it is fantastic. I have watched a movie or 2 on a Plasma TV and i just thought the picture was so great, but from what i have heard they have a problem with "burn in" especially when it comes to video games. So any opinions or personal stores on the above technologies that may help me in my chioce would be great.
I am looking at about a 50" size right now.

Well i decided to go with the 56" Samsung DLP HDTV
The LCD was nice, the colors were a bit more vibrant, and it was a bit brighter, but the picture was not as crisp on the 55" Sony LCD as it was on the DLP.
The LCD was just a little more grainy than the DLP.
I am sure i would have been happy with either since my currrent TV is the biggest i have ever owned at 27"
can'y wait to see how the game systems and DVD's play on it.
But now i have to check into HDTV and what it will cost to change out my 3 rooms from normal Satalite to their HDTV service.

That is caused by the "Screen door effect" (or low fill-rate) which sony tries to cover up with vibrant colors. the "Screen door effect" is inherent in all rear projection LCD screens under 1080p (1920x1080) resolution. Good observation! If both displays where properly calibrated the DLP would blow the LCD away.

Make sure you use high quality connections! For cable use the HDMI port (unless you go with the cable card option). Use componet video on a Progressive scan DVD player or the HDMI port on an upconversion dvd player (recommended). For high def video games use the compoent video connections aswell. Remmember that a Digital tv needs a digital source to look its best!

also keep in mind that the lamps are more expensive for the dlp's but as your talking about plasma burn in. simply get a plasma that has newer technology that actually moves the pixels every so often to fight the problem almost all carry it now but be sure to make sure

that's ok, i have a service plan so bulbs and cleanings are free, well not free but cheaper than if i paid for them each year.

So far it is working great. I have to fine tune it and wait until i get some money for better cables.
Plus i have to check every component to see what kind of hook ups they have. I know most will have S-Video, but i would think only the satalite box would have HDMI.
Plus the way i have eveything routed through my receiver, which is older, i am not sure how it would work as i would loose my surround sound without totally re-routing everything and figuring out how to do it. I know i can but it will take some thought. I figure instead of everything going into my 4 in/1 out multi-jack, and from there to all over. I can route everything to the TV, then out of the TV to the receiver. Need to test my theory though.

You could either do that or buy a new receiver. On tht has at least component video in/out-puts and mabye composite and S-Video upconversion to component video out.
