The only thing that pops up when I do a search for this drive is DVR-110D, and that one IS NOT the same as the regular DVR-110 drive, I'm specifically looking to also be able to record DVD-RAM disks, and the 110D can't do that, just read them, only the regular 110 can also record them. (gee, pioneer sure made this confusing!)

Does anyone know where in the USA I can buy a DVR-110 drive? NOT a DVR-110D drive, there's plenty of those around, just the Pioneer DVR-110 (cause I also want to be able to record DVD-RAM disks also)!

I did some research on the particular drive you wanted and apparently, it's not easy to acquire in many countries. However, the Asus DRW-1608P2S is the same Pioneer DVR-110 drive. All you need to do is get the crossflashing utility from speedlabs.org and it'll become the Pioneer DVR-110 burner you wanted.

Here are links from to help give you an idea on how to do this:

This is the burner

Thanks for the info. Hmmm, this changes everything for me now. I did some reading on the speedlabs page, and I guess the 110D can also be flashed to become more like a model that DOES support DVD-RAM. It's been a few years, but I guess I'll take a chance and try this. I guess the worst that can happen is a trashed $40 pioneer drive, but what the heck. It seems worth the risk, and not like I've never burned firmware, just not lately. So thanks for the reply.

No problem. Just make sure that flashing the drive using firmware not authorized could void your warranty. One more thing, let us know...whether good or bad!
