I keep folders on my computer with all kinds of icons. And I had some .wav files, plus a lot more things. When I installed Nero 7, all my icons for these and other folders were changed to Nero's icons. How do I get my original icons back?

During nero Installation process, you had an option, to choose which audio, video, immage...files to be by default handled with Nero. You probably just clicked next and didn't untick anything. I don't have Nero, but see if you have any settings somewhere where you can change the propreties.
An example, to get the .WAV files to be open by default with Windows Media player:
Open Windows Media Player, clickTools, then Options, then click File Types. There you can choose what files you want Windows Media Player to be the default player for. If you click those you will get your icons back. probably you can undo that in Nero also, but I don't have it, can't walk you through.

When you installed Nero -- it asked if you wanted to associate a whole bunch of files to it -- you just clicked and went right on ! That is what changed your Icons !
For your wav or Mp3 or what have you -- It is a simple matter of right clicking the wav or the MP3 and selecting OPEN with --then choose Program and selecting the program you want to open with -- make sure you tick ""always use this program... "".
have a great day !
<<smiles>> I was writing my post while cyprusrom was posting is ! So you got 2 answers for the price of one !

I understand what you have said, but what I am trying to correct is not the answers you gave me.
Thank you anyway. I will just uninstall Nero 7 and a system restore and hope that will solve my problems. Next time I install 7 I will make sure nothing is checked.

Then my friend -- you are the only one that knows what you looking for -- perhaps if you would have taken the time of explaining what icons you are talking about instead of saying all kinds of icons -- all my icons for these and other folders -- cyprusrom and myself would have not lost our time answering you !
Accept my apology for giving you the wrong steer !

I'm sorry if I gave you this impression that you were no help .. actually you were a lot of help. I just didn't want to uninstall and redo Nero.
When I am wanting to change a folder to a special icon (like one on my desktop).. I go to properties and choose a new icon. Nero changed them to the same and one only icon. I have to view them all separately.
I really am sorry if I sounded inconsiderate of your response. Really.

Excuse me .. your laughing at me, because I don't explain what I need help with, and then when I give specific details, you laugh at me?
Did you really understand what I said? Or do you not have the answer, so you make fun of me?
I don't want to offend anyone. Never have.
To not have an answer, is no reason to come down on me. I've never used Nero, I bought the program because it was so highly talked about, and all I wanted was an answer. If you didn't have it, what's the big deal. You didn't have to laugh at me.

I am sorry if I came accross as laughing at you(if your message was for me). I was laughing, but not at you my friend, just at the situation. This is the problem with written messages, they can be so hard to read sometimes. Is hard to convey or interpret feelings, no matter how many emoticons one might use. I guess we're cool now!
Now, I don't think I understand exactly what you are looking for. I could blame it on my lack of knowledge, or on English being my second language, could blame it on not paying enough attention to your message, or on your message not being clear enough. Whatever the reason is, try to relax, and no matter how hard might be, smile once in a while.
This is a site were we all try to learn from each other.I know I learned a lot- considering that I started absolutely from 0 when I joined this site. And one other thing that I learned is that friendly smiles are always welcomed!
Now, if you care to explain your problem again, maybe give an example. If I can't help you, probably someone else will jump in and give you a hand.

LOL, you have to have a sense of humour here or a very thick skin, because English is a second language for many members here it's important not to take some replies personally or the wrong way koalaw.
As surmised Nero is now the default program with some of your existing applications it will therefore change the icon to show its association with that program.
Uninstalling Nero 7 separately may not be necessary as a system restore should be sufficient, and when you reinstall Nero again just untick any of your programs you don't want Nero to associate with and that should leave those original icons intact.
Another option, if you still have access to the original icons, is to just change them back to what they were before you installed Nero.
That should work also.

My problem could have been .. for years I have had a computer. It's a thing with me to change the looks of it. Silly sounds .. things like that.
Sometimes I need an extra folder on my desktop, so I right click and create a folder. Myself, I don't like the plain yellow folder icon, so I right click, properties, customize and choose another icon to appear instead of the yellow folder.
When I browse for one other than they offer, I see nothing but all these .ico files with Nero's .ico ... I choose one and view, choose another to view and so on. If I could see the .ico file I would just choose it and go on. I have tried to find in Nero's settings something about all the extensions they cover, but have found nothing yet.
Since I really am having problems getting Nero to work the way I thought it would, I probably should just uninstall it anyway. Not sure why the big rave about Nero anyway. I must be missing something. Maybe I should do more reading about it.
Thanks

I'm the same koalaw, I customize all my folders and icons, makes life so easy to find what I am looking for, and it looks good too.
IconChanger 3.4 is an excellent program which you will enjoy.
Nero is great but it takes a bit of figuring out when you first start but once you've experienced all it can do (by asking here and lurking in other threads) you will never use anything else.

Try this:
Right click your folder icon on your desktop.Click proprieties, then Customize, than Change Icon, and then click Restore Defaults(that is how I have in Windows XP). See if you have any luck before uninstalling Nero. Nero is quite a useful tool IMO.
