What do you guy's think about using a Sony Dvd recorder to copy movies with the computer. I ordered the Sony DRX-810ul Dvd recorder this week, but someone mentioned to me that a Sony recorder might not be the best option for someone looking to back-up movies. (Something about them possably using the internal software to block you from being to burn movies). Just curious about your thoughts on this.
Thanks

Just another Urban Legend. How would the burner know what you are burning?
It could be a movie of your last holiday or your homemade p0rn ;)

Any decoder issues, or anything like that, to mention?
I'm trying to figure out if this unit will be a good canadate for coping, or if I should be looking in a different direction.
Which or the ones that you guy's like? or does it not matter at all?
Thanks again

LOL@ BurningAs, I like that idea.
Asking which DVD burner is the best is a bit like asking which car is the best to drive IMHO.
I've got one LG and one Samsung and to me there is no obvious difference between them, and for someone who just backs up a few projects for personal use I'm quite happy with how both perform.
Benq seem to be popular atm, but it's whatever rocks your boat as to what you should buy. (Now watch someone jump on me ;)
More important is to buy the best media possible stay away from 'generic' brands and anything produced by CMC. (Crap Media Company)
That's one thing that anybody who knows what they are talking about agrees on.
A quick look through the forums will point you in the right direction there.

I just brought an ASUS Dvd Writer because after doing research all the reviews say they are very quiet and the software that comes with it is the full version. For media they are a bit more expensive but i went with verbatim printable to go along with my Epson R340 printer. I just ordered my dvd writer this weekend so I dont know the what the verdict will be, but I have an internal sony, its only a 4x (got it went they first came out) but it works great and the only coasters i got was from the media

Thanks. I appreciate the input guy's. I quess after everything is said and done, the drive itself is not a big deal, which should make the Sony fine for me.
Let me ask you though, when you refer to the media I guess your refering to the orginal format. correct?

Yeah "burning as" I guess I be watching my sony Dvd's, (that I burnt on my Sony drive, w/ my Sony computer), on my Sony TV.
It's all good- when it all matches. right?

when i refer to media, i mean the dvd+-r that you are using to do you back ups on. If you read some of the forums here they suggest diffrent types, but the cheap generic ones give lots of coasters and shelf life is not too good.
