Had trouble ripping Spanglish with DVD Decrypter, multiple read errors, then realized I was using 3.5.2, so I updated and was then able to rip it no problems. Thanks to all who posted the suggestion to update. What a great forum.

So to those who havent been reading all 3 pages of this thread so far, here is the summary:

DVD Decrypter will ONLY work on this movie if you have the most recent version 3.5.4, no other version will work.

DVD SHRINK has been unable to back up this movie as a stand alone program but, will work when combined with a stand alone ripper like decrypter.

AnyDVD seems to be working best but, indicates that Spanglish is using both Sony ArCoSS, Puppetlock and 5 bad sectors.

If I am mistaken, and I very well could be, has there ever been a DVD that we are aware of that has used both ArCoss and Puppetlock on a single disc?

With this movie you need the newest version of AnyDVD that is on the slysoft site. Any other version will not work.

Good Day Fellows,

I just backed up Spanglish with the latest version of DVD Decrypter with no problem & no need for Any DVD. But is it me or is the quality poor on this original dvd ? Could it be a bad batch that caused this problem....

Have a Nice Day !

Spanglish is the first movie that my DVD43/1Click has been unable to rip to my hard drive. From what I'm reading, it appears that I need to get the "ANYDVD" decryptor. Will this solve the problem ??

I thought I had it licked by just allowing the programs to cycle through the bad sectors but at 98%, 1Click came up with some arcane error and flushed the file. :o)

I just backed up the whole disk of Spanglish using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, both worked fine, have done movie only using just AnyDVD and DVD Shrink, these worked also. The updated DVD Decrypter will work for you.

OK... many thanks

By the way... in my attempts to copy this movie so many errors were encountered that XP Pro put my Sony DVD ROM into the PIO transfer mode. I had to uninstall the IDE channel and reboot to get it back to Ultra DMA4.

@dano28 - using decrypter should'nt cause that as it caters for the so called bad blocks ie the protections

I know AnyDVD log showed five bad sectors, and DVD Decrypter had to insert dummy sectors twice, reader slowed down to zilch, but then picked up speed again. Both proggys did there job well.

Since I was the first one to start this thread and commented on something being different about this disc I would like to know from the "experts" if any disc like this have ever exisited.

Clearly the last poster with success claimed that even though certain progrmas did work the "AnyDVD log showed five bad sectors, and DVD Decrypter had to insert dummy sectors twice, reader slowed down to zilch, but then picked up speed again."

Clearly that is not a conflict of software, a bad pressing of the disc or non current software revisions. Without the very latest versions, this disc is essentially uncopyable and even with the latest versions of sofware it is causing readers to switch to pio mode, lock up at 36%, indicate bad sectors, insert dummy sectors and slow read speeds down to ZERO.

So, I would like to know if this is something anyone has seen before or if it indeed a new form of protection as I indicated 2 weeks ago and got flamed to death for posting.

Backed up Spanglish without any problems. Used AnyDVD 4.6.3.1, and Clonedvd2 2.7.5.1. Burner is a Sony DRU-500A firmware 2.1a

As I posted above The Forgotten had the exact same encryption, which AnyDVD had an update out for the day before the dvd came out. The movie industry will keep trying new encryptions and programmers will keep updating, or find another way around the encryptions. The disk as you put it is not "uncopyable" you just need the properly updated programs to do it.

Arniebear my exact quote was "Without the very latest versions, this disc is essentially uncopyable" and your comments support my comment.

I must disagree with you though, "the forgotten" was released several months ago and the AnyDVD revision that was released to fix that specific disc does not work on this disc. A newer version of AnyDVD has been released since then and only that version will work on this disc.

Again I will repeat, that without the very latest software versions of Decryptor and AnyDVD this disc is uncopyable. Shrink in and of itself is incapable of doing it with its ripping engine.

History update on AnyDVD re ARccOS protection. Released on March 1, 2005.

4.5.8.1, 2005 03 01

- New: Added support for a new version of the "Sony ARccOS
protection" as found on "The Forgotten" (UK), "Little Black Book"
(UK) or "She hate me" (UK) to the option to remove "Protection
based on unreadable Sectors"
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

Earlist I've read (but not too closely) ARccOS work was in Sept. 2004.

I don't know about that. My DVD43/1Click combo was able to handle "The Forgotten" with no problem.

I used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to compress the files, then Nero 6 to copy. Perfect backup!

You should always have improved success if you use current, up to date decrypting programs. Check for updates frequently.
