he had some good ponts but got really angry at little things.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

the cell architecture will find itself in electronics. The Cell, itself, isn't as powerful as Sony is claiming. It won't even come close to the boasted 230 gigaflops performance outside of a laboratory.

yes it will, but it will take a bit of time for the language to be learned well enuf to exploit it all.

exploitation has nothing to do with it. the numbers are derived in laboratories using ideal circumstances. the only way game developers will "exploit" that kind of performance will be in a game that has absolutely nothing. maybe they can make "PS3 calculator" or something.

all a processor is is a calculator. either way if its lab tested there would have to be good credencials of they would nt have support. stop not believing in the cell, and accept a new from of advancing tech.

Oofrome, are you kidding me? The 360 doesnt even come close to 2teraflops. It is 100+ geflps. 1.3teraflopes corect?
Ps3 woops 360's @$$ in Floating point performace bandwith, AND memory. The cell even has more transistors than the 360. Please, know what you are talking about before you post.

2.56 teraflops to be exact. thats like 2.5 trillion calculations per second. the cell uses those calculations on the coding sent to it. just because the 360 have more cores and threads doesnt mean its not far supirior.

We dont know how many threads the cell has, we can't comment on this.

You guys have to have played a ps3 and an Xbox360 before you can pass any reasonable judgements on which will be 'far superior' and which will not. And even then, it's a matter of choice/opinion which makes a console great, rather than just the tech specs..

It is fun, but there are a lot of fanboys around. That's when fun discussions become messy flamers with people getting banned.

kookoo, what are you talking about? I never said anything about the Xbox 360 in this thread. I'm just going to assume that you weren't directing your post at me, because I have no idea where that came from. If it was, somehow, then just let me know how you arrived at the conclusion that I was comparing the cell to the 360 processor.
Quote: stop not believing in the cell, and accept a new from of advancing tech.
okay. you convinced me, anubis.
I "believe in the Cell" as much as anything else. I have stated numerous times in other threads that I think the cell is better equipped to play games than anything else right now. unfortunately, it is overhyped, and you're the pawn in the marketing scheme of tech numbers. it isn't even the first time Sony has done it, either. Do you remember what the PS2 was supposed to be capable of? The numbers they had out were calculated as well, but there is a significant difference of actual in-game performance. My previous two posts were merely to point out that the Cell will not be performing at those numbers when you play a game.

kookoo you misinterpriet everyone. i said the ppe has 2 threads and the spes work with it. it has the spes work out calculations for the 2 threads that it maintains.

Yea and there are 7 PPU's. SO 7x2 = 14 threads.
Apperently there are 8 PPU's now so it is imposable for it to have 16 threads.

koo koo you and your god damns 2-3 characher posts..
anyways, each spe (not ppu) is under control of the ppe. the ppe has the threads, and the spe's run them. like a guy who owns 2 companies, and his employees do most of the work. the spes themseelves are not threaded, but the process the info from both thread with vector processing.

Wow you just said that each PPU has 2 threads, and know you are denying it, keep your comments to yourself, your posts usually nothing compairing to mine.
SPE is a SPU
If there are 8 PPU's, that means there would be 16 threads. Which no.

And wow, you even got your facts wrong, and you got me frustrated enough to inform you.
There are 8 vectors for the cell. These vectors are called SPU's(also known as SPE's)
There is PAU's what controll what the SPU's do.
The reason why the cell is "hard" to code for is because the PAU has a completly different code than the SPU.
Therfore the game developers have to code each code over and over.
Now go back.
Each SPU is a 128bit (Synergistic Processing Elements[units] AKA 128 bit vectors
A PAU is a Power Architecture Unit.
This PAU tells everything in the cell what to do.
The PPE (PPU) tells the SPU nothing.
Hopefully, i dont have to post what the XDR Ram is doing in the Cell, you should know this, or research it yourself.

kookoo you are insane or ignorant
Quote: yes we do. its 2 threads on the ppe. thes spes work under the ppe.
i said the ppe has it, not the spes, the spes do the work. and i knew the spes had 128 bit
vectors, ive posted that quite some time ago.
and there are 8 spes, not ppe's or ppu's as you call them. you are mixing two different things
and taking them for eachother. read better, and research better.
