try adjusting and cleaning your laser and see if it will read discs. There are so many things on a motherboard that there may be things that can get fried and still allow you to turn it on and go through the browser and all that as that doesn't have anything to do with the laser.
But i would get a second person to look at your system to see if they say the same thing.

@dan168, i would not sell yourself short. You know quite a lot and some may just be in area's that i don't. People need all the help they can get here. These forums are how i know pretty much everything i know. Now i am still learning all the Xbox stuff.

i just need to ask sumtin
ive looked at about 10 games f1 2004, godfather,tombraider,toca race driver 3, 007 everything or nohting ,metal gear solid 3, driver 4, dogs life none of them have any files called DUMMY00 , DUMMY02

do dummy files come in a different name or are they rare in games to have and how would i patch the game?

i have only seen 2 kinds myself, one called garbage, one called junk
But it is not very common. i would say 1 out of every 15 games would have them.
I have most of the games below but do not remember if i burned and played them before or after i got a modchip so i can not tell you if they do or do not.
