@FredBun
Sorry that you feel it's all "over your head". I've tried to keep things simple but some things can't be explained in one or two words.
Stick around, you may learn a thing or two, or three! :)

I'm sorry to hear that, unfortunately when like minds are about we talk in the most efficient ways possible to save our little fingers from typing all the time, using acronyms and all that. If there's anything you don't understand what we said, reply or PM us and we'll explain in easier to understand language!

@no74 - sounds so far like your hard drive is buggered and if none of the recommended options work sounds like you're out of luck. Some people out there recommend giving the drive a slight tap (which i DON'T recommend as is guaranteed to finish off the drive). Every time i've done it it's got the drive to actually respond, however it's only ever got grinding noises ie crashed the drive heads or whatever. Then i give the drive more than a slght tap ie i bounce from 5feet in the air. But i digress, i read you tried the drive in a.n.other pc and it's no-go. Not sure what to suggest if knoppix can't 'see' the drive, does sound like the drive has had it.. Quote: repalce the CD/DVD with the old HD, which i tried, the pc won't boot, it beeps when the drive is connected.

Hehe the only drive I've had fail so far (touches wood) is one that sort of went up in smoke from a bad PSU, so I knew that was finished.

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

i've had many a mainframe hard drive (the size of washing machines) fail on me with spectacular results, we're talking heads crashing with very loud bangs and bits of disc platter and electronics flying around; we used to have a huge room of them - removable drives in see-through 'enclosures' that you'd spin-down via a command or two then unscrew the actual enclosures containing the hard drive and swap drives in then resynch ie mirror from the source drives, then we'd start the overnight batch runs.
Anyway i digress, i've had many many PC hard drives die on me and it's been very rare to ever get anything back off them.
