I do the same. Im really liking DVDRebuilder.

Your scans with the LiteOn's seems very consistant from beginning to end for the most part. IS that characteristic of all LiteOn's? My NEC as you can see from the couple I posted usually start high and end low, or vice versa. It doesnt matter if im using Verbs or TY media. Im thinking of trying out one of the 18X burners and have been looking at the LiteOn LH-18A1P-185 . Overall im not the happiest with how my NEC's burn patterns are.

@pahick....... did you check out my 99.8% quality scan? it's got highs and lows and some in between.... don't buy a burner for that reason, because of scans if those movies play great and you can re rip the movie down the road! I have plenty of Memorex (Codes out to RICOHJPN) that are still greeat and some are over 4 yrs old now! That's the real test of a burn and a burner.
I found one that I burned 2 yrs ago.... bought the Memorex before I joined AfterDawn and before I knew better.... but again I lucked out getting RICOHJPN disks and not CMC MAGs! here is the scan:

the movie was made in 2003 but the DVD was released in 4/6/04 when I recorded it!

For that price on the LiteOn I'd pick it up - cheaper than what I paid a few months ago for the SHW-160PS6 at newegg.
@Ripper
Hmmm we'll have to find on that supports the LG :)
Yeah I have some old Princo, CMC, Vanguard etc that I've tried to scan and they just lock the thing up. Still play but haven't watched them all the way thru. Re ripping - nope too many CRC errors.

I will not buy a burner based on high and low burn pattern alone. But look again at my burns. Where yours and others keeps PI Errors @maximum 20-30 at times, mine is usually quite a bit higher. And PI failures arent the lowest either. Ive seen some great scans on other NECs that I would be ashamed to compare mine to. Sure the disc plays, with quality seeming pretty good....for now. But im worried overtime the disc(with already higher than normal errors and failures) will degrade to the point they are unwatchable. Maybe im wrong for thinking that way.
@Binkie7
Price alone for that burner is enough incentive so im ordering now. Maybe 'til next weekend ill have some scans of one of the new 18x burners for everyone.

Yes, that's LiteOns scanning I guess. LiteOn and BenQ are known to be the best burners out there according to my experiences. Most of the more advanced (knowledgeable memebers) here at AD would recommend "LiteOn and BenQ" if you'd asked me.
I have 2 LiteOns (SHW-160P6S & 1633S), actually one is a SONY DRU710 a rebadged LiteOn SOHW 1633S and yes they all burned and read precisely. Plus their "Book Type" tool is quite awesome indeed. Well, not necessary for the "Book Type Utility" if you have both Nero and ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter, you can set the book type to DVD-ROM via settings easily. This simplify our DVD player's life much easier.

I forgot to add in addendum to your soon-to-be LiteOn owner drive from above picture & link. I say; "go for it!", for that kind of low price $35 (this including shipping), it's a win win situation.
Originally, I was going to get one of the external/USB BenQ, but they're all out, then I went for LiteOn instead. Overall, LiteOn has never let me down, so far I'm pretty much satisfied.
As for burning & quality; anything with 70% - higher on the Video Quality ratio (meaning only 30% or less needs to be transcoded), I'll simply use Nero Recode on "Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie" or I can use the Nero 7 Recode AEC changer patched by Solomon to "Max Smooth".
Anything lower than 70% on the Video Quality ratio (meaning 30% or more needs to be transcoded), then I'll fire up my DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 to encode with 3 PASSES.

I do the same. I started out with AnyDVD/CloneDVD, but have quickly advanced to Recode or Rebuilder depending upon compression. Im quickly watching my bank account get smaller...lol..but it really is worth it.
BTW, I just bought that LiteOn so we will see this coming weekend if it is as good as ive read.

You'll love the Lite-on drive, I have 2 of them now and rarely have any sort of playback problems on any disk. Keep an eye on NewEgg's weekend specials, just picked up one (SHW-160P6S) for $28 with free shipping. Gave up trying to get ahold of a Benq drive.
Rob, one thing I noticed about my burn scores, they went up after I replaced a burnt out PSU, went up to a 450 watt supply and I think it does make a difference.
I am currently running a P-IV, 1.9 GHz with 1.0 Gigs of memory, 2 hard drives, 2 burners. I'm not sure how this system compares to yours, but it is able to rip a mean DVD Copy.

Hey cincy when you update or install/reinstall Clone it shows this the 1st time after that it just goes back the sheep eating popcorn. It's just showing the video bit ratio.
If you click on that pic you can change back to the popcorn eating sheep or the chart/graph.
@pahick
Keep us posted on the new Litey. I'd love to see some scans from that one & get your feedback on it. LiteOn fan here too - been using them for a few years - I call them the timex of burner's :)

According to my experiences with SONY and LiteOn, it's extremely rare that you'll get any 98%, this is unless you only had "1 PI Failures," otherwise 2 PI Failrues is going to get you 95% of Quality regardless.
LiteOn and BenQ use different sets of scanning, a 95 from LiteOn is like 98 or 99 from BenQ already. What you really care for is to watch out for them PIF, if you have 5 or more PIF, then your backup disc may fade or likely to become corrupted (i.e. freezing, skpping, etc.) down the road.

so the scans that pazzini just displayed shows quality scores of 97 and PIFs of MAXIMUM OF 6... does this mean that eventually he'll have a problem down the road with his disks? Just curious on what you said.... I value your opinion.
