I asked around and it turned out to be very simple all I had to do was run system recovery to reinstall windows.

I'm happy to say I'm typing this on my computer. Everything is back to normal.

Thank you for all your help. Special thanks to echoreply.

You didn't use any CD installation? You mean to say that I can just restart my computer and go to the boot menu and click 'run system recovery' without me, putting an XP re installation CD?

Coz recently, I've been planning to re-format my computer so that I can once again experience what it feels like having a brand new PC. You know, the feeling when you first bought your PC and it was ultimately fast without any freezes and whatnot...

No, I did'nt use an installation cd.

If you have a recovery drive just run system recovery. (save what you need)

I did'nt do it from the boot menu. I just went to the start menu > all programs > pc help & tools > hp pc system recovery.

Oh I see. So what happened next is that all programs that you installed(personal choices)got deleted and it all went back from the basic installed programs?
