not sure if ive read this somewhere or someone has told me, but can i transfer my snes emulator and its roms to my memory card and then take it round my mates who doesnt have a mod chip or swap magic and boot it straight from the memory card to play?

No you can't transfer the data to your memory card, especially not an entire game. A whole game is indefinetly too large to fit on a memory card.
