I, like many people, have a video I wanted to add subtitles too. I followed the tutorial here: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm
which resulted in a great copy with green rectangles instead of words where the subtitles were supposed to be. Maybe I did something wrong, or I should use a different program or something. If anyone has run accross this problem please let me know. As far as I know I followed the directions to the letter.

-AMD 2500+
-1Gb RAM
-Win XP
-Plenty HD: getting smaller by the day ;-)

Second question, possibly related, Can you make the background of the subtitles in SRT2SUP transparent? or does the text have to be on top of a block of color?

Third Question, when you combine with IFOEdit, can you make the subtitle optional but default? Not hardcoded but turned on automatically.

Third and a half question would be how to Hardcode subs. A good tutorial link or program reccomendation would be nice.

-Thanks

Well, I changed the subs in SRT2SUP to what the tutorial said for colors BUT changed the background to transparent. Now when I use IFOEdit and mux the subs are blocky, green text instead or green rectangles... Maybe I'll try turning off border and anti-aliasing and just have green subs. White with black border would be better though.

Anyone else run into this problem?

This is an example of what I'm talking about. I have changed the color of the subtitles background and antialias to transparent and have white text with black border. It's all green. Before it was just a green rectangle.
While it appears to be getting better, it's nothing near where it should be.

Keep tweeking it. It obviously a setup problem. Don't burn it, keep it on the HDD. Eventually you'll get it and then follow that method...

If it ain't broken it doesn't need fixing...
Newbies, look for it here first: http://www.google.co.uk/

This usually works for me: with IFOEdit, open your VTS_01_0.IFO file, select VTS_PGCITI, select VTS_PGC_1, in the bottom window scroll down until you see the color entries.

Edit the first four color entries ("Color 0 Y Cr CB", "Color 1 Y Cr CB", "Color 2 Y Cr CB", "Color 3 Y Cr CB"). For the 0 entry use the value "00 80 80", for the 1 entry use "55 80 80", for 2 use "AA 80 80" and for 3 use "FF 80 80".

If the subs still look bad after that then for the remaining 12 entries ("Color 4-15") edit them all with "00 80 80". It may be overkill to edit all the way to 15, but the green subs should be gone. Your IFO should look like this:
