have everything installed properley i believ the spider16 lights up but the smartxx does not...do i need to remove the do tab? or do i have a bad chip?

You mean you have both chips with solderless? Do you know your xbox version? do you follow the instruction of SmartXX?

If the answer "yes" to all, you may have a bad chip.
