I followed part two of this guide:
http://www.totse.com/en/hack/software_cracking/163083.html

I followed all the steps on Part two of the above guide. I copied and saved the image file from the original game disc onto my hard drive using CloneCD. With the saved files on my hard drive, I burnt them onto a blank DVD+RW. It seems I cannot play this backup copy of this PS2 game and it says to insert a PS2 format disc. Now the guide I followed didn't require much, as it says no mod chip required and it didn't say anything about swap disc. Then I thought it was something wrong with the type of media I'm using(DVD+RW). Can PS2 read backup copies on DVD+RW or CD+RW type media? Or does it only work on CD-R or DVD-R blank media?

29. Q. I have a version X playstation. Should I use DVD-R's, DVD+R's, DVD-RW's, or DVD+RW's?
A. Well the PS2 doesn't load RW's well, if at all, so those are out. v.1-3 PS2's seem to work with better with DVD-R's, v.4 PS2's are 50/50. v.5 PS2's and later should play DVD+R's fine. If you know of an exception to this, i.e. you have a v.9 which wont play+R's, or a v.2 which prefers DVD+R's, don't send me hate mail, it's just a rule of thumb. In general it's usually better to use DVD-R's when burning PS2 games. DVD+R's tend be of better quality than DVD+R's, DVD-R's tend to be more compatible with most stand alone DVD players. Booktyping DVD+R's as DVD-ROM's should provide greater compatibility with your PS2.

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):

If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else? The brand of media you use means very little.
The key determinant of media quality is the Media ID. For info on the Media ID, check the bottom of this thread.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:

PS2 doesn't like DVD-RW or DVD+RW, you'll end up with lots of issues only, plus it may destroy your PS2 laser/lens. Use high quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "advaned azo or datalife plus" and Maxell (made in japan by Hitachi). Make sure you burn them at anywhere from 4X - 8X only (don't go beyond 8X), plus make sure your burner's firmware is up-to-date.

I use Phillips +R with a Liteon writer and have a 100% success rate so far with a 5 year old PS2.
