Can you play a original xbox backup on a dvd-r on your xbox 360? it says the xbox 360 will read all discs so why couldn't it play a original xbox game from dvd-r? the reason why the xbox wont play a backup game is because it wont read the media unless its modded. Anyone tried this?

Well of course it doesn't play burned games. There's this thing called copy protection. It could be possible with modchip, but there are no modchips for 360. Only way to play them is with old xbox /w modchip.

if it will read a DVD-R why wont it read the game on a DVD-R. the reason xbox cant play burnt games is because it will NOT read a DVD-R. you dont have to have a modchip to play burnt games on xbox all you got to do is softmod the xbox so it will read a DVD-R and it will work fine.

psst. it's not because it's a DVD-R bud.
it won't play an Xbox backup on a dvd-r/+r/-rw/+rw because you need someway to bypass the security measures on the 360, not to mention look what happened to the kiosk disk that got passed around, after the update last tuesday kaput - it don't work no more. so that should prove to you right there if ur gunna have it connected to XBL that ur going to have problems w/ burned games.
but like Arcanix said copy protection. just gotta use the original Xbox....
oh and i'm on my 2nd X360 so i ain't 'postin about things i know nothin about'

Maybe you should read the manuals before you post. Do you really think that xbox 360 boots burned games? Reading the media is completely different than booting burned games. Yes, 360 can read burned dvd's, but where does it say that it boots burned games? And so far there is no way to soft- or hardmod 360.

i got it to play backup game. all you need is a exact copy 1:1 of the xbox game. disk has to be named the same as the original and must be compiled together using a xbox iso maker. for example when you copy a game to xbox hard drive it creates a folder name like Forza Racing. then when you make that a iso it doesnt recreate the cd name it has no name and shows up just cd drive. you have to edit it and make it like SEP13011042072 then it will work. however you cannot use live or update your 360

Well that's a load of bs. When you burn the game it has no signature. There's the first thing where the whole thing goes wrong. 360 has also media detection, so if a retail game is launched it first checks the signature then the media. Even if it had the signature, then it wouldn't start because it's on a burned disc.

or you would need your own dvd press (not burner) to 'backup' games, when in the long run it'd still be cheaper to go buy them.

i know double post, but if u need to get the BC update when it comes out so you can play one of your backups hmmm, then ur reasoning goes out the window.if you know it'll work why did you ask the question yesterday? and dude just changing the name of the media when burning it, they would be dumb enough to use that as their copy protection.

what i said was - So then if it's not on the original Backwards Compatability list your sol? because u would need to update the backwards compatability so that ur 360 could emulate said game. but u say don't update the box and dont go live, so then how could u play a game when the BC is added for it?

i know that, i was just wondering if he'd come back w/ a bs reason as to why it would work, since we all ready know it wouldn't (cuz pst. how do u download the emulator too for that specific game?)

i did update my box to get the newest emulator software before i was trying it but when i try to go live now it must check my cache or something and tell it its bad because once u go live that game will not work again ever. so pretty much you would have to play what games that are out now and never update again which would suck. but it was worth a try. maybe someone will come out with a softmod soon or a way to empty your cache/temp folder

The 360(as well as the origanal xbox) has a signing security system built into it's BIOS,it searches for the signature and if it finds it it will boot the game, if it does not find it(copied game) it will not boot the game. A modchip stores a hacked BIOS which is the same as the origanal BIOS except with the security bit's taken out of it. At the moment there is not modchip for the xbox 360 so you can't play copied games.
You are reading a mindless signature, please stop reading it now it is mindless, one can only presume you are mindless since you are still reading this mindless signature, Oh my god get a life you mindless person, whats the matter with you, dont you have a girlfreind? mindless mindless mindless
