Question about burning AVI's in 4:3

I'm trying to burn some episodes of Bleach which are in AVI from with a res of 640x480. Everything seems to be working fine but when I watch them on my TV the edges of the video are cut off which makes it diffecult to see the sub titles.

If I burn it at 16:9 it works but then I have black bars on all 4 sides of the video and that also makes the subs alittle to small to read.

Can anyone help me out with this, I tried to look through that guide on the front page but didn't find much help.
