I am a newbie only getting a drive for Christmas and installing it with no problems. First 2 attempts at burns turned into coasters until I read that I should uncheck the "burn at once" box. 8 good burns since then and all have additional lightscribe labels burned into them. Been doing some downloading and burning, all is ok on 4.7 disks, even when I combine video files onto the same disk. I made some files/movies where I recieved a message that said my movie exceeded the 4.7 limit and it could either be compressed to fit onto a 4.7 or to keep quality entact I could use a dvd9. when I burn to a 4.7, all is fine. I finally bought some 8.5s (dvd9) and gave it a try for the best quality. All went well until I went to burn and I got a message that said if I continue, the files could be damaged. I went ahead and tried it, after over two hours, there was an error message and the progrm was forced to shut down, therefore there was no error log. The disc is now a coaster and it says that it is full, but no data is readible on it. I am using nero express that came with my I/O magic lightscribe drive which I know is actually a BenQ 1625 in disguise. The same file/compilation that failed to burn onto a dvd9, went ok compressed onto a 4.7. Can anyone help me?, I would like to use my drive and software to its full ability and although the 4.7s look and operate fine, I want to make some full quality dvd9s.

I rip to ISO then burn the image with ImgBurn. It seems to be the option for dual layer discs. Nero is not known for handling the break in dual layer discs as well as it could/should.
In terms of blank media, if u can get Verbatim DL's those appear to be the best though Ridata's have been ok for me. U didn't say what brand of media u were using but that could be a problem as well.

Sorry if I sound confused here, but I am not copying a disk. I made a movie from 2 downloaded files and a fade with Nero express. It burns fine when converted to long play and onto a 4.7. When I tried to keep file size/quality and burn same project to a dvd 9 is when the problem occurred. I read up on DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn, they seem to be geared towards copying protected DVDs, not burning your own large files.

imgburn is a free prog made by the guy who created dvddecrypter. Imgburn is listed on AfterDawn in the software section. U can use DVDdecrytper to rip to ISO instead of file mode. Then just burn the ISO image with IMG.

Ok, I have been all over this site and tried your advice, first when I try to add the file to either decrypter or ImgBurn, I get an error message that says it is not a supported file. here is the type of file it is "Title.UNRATED.DVDRip.XviD-ALLiANCE.(PeerWeb.org)" It plays fine. What do I need to do to get this file onto a DVD 9 disc?
Do I need to convert the file? Please Help!!

I created the movie in Nero from files and fades, then burnt it to my HD. I didn't get one file instead, it gave me individual DVD files and menus. Anyway, i've tried to open/add them into Decrypter and/or ImgBurn and it still says invalid file. What do I have to do to burn onto a DVD 9?, I really don't want any more coasters.

If u've DL'd some movie then u won't need IMGBurn which only works for ISO files. If u've converted the avi/divx file to dvd format then u can either use DVD Shrink to get it down to a DVD-5 size or use Nero Recode.
Or you can always get Dual Layer dvds (Verbatim or if u can't find them try Ridata or Fuji).
