Hi all,I am currently using an ECS nforce3-250 m/b with sempron 3100+ paris that is running slightly oc-d @ 2ghz.(stable) but I still have not satisfied my need/greed for speed.I'm trying to adhere to a budget and would like to avoid taking the s939 plunge (atleast for now) so I am here once again asking for your suggestions, and of course any and all will be appreciated.

Hi wrench,
The Semprons are okay but only 256KB cache (they are inexpensive).
You can get a genuine Athlon64 3000+ for Socket754, 2.0GHz speed and 512KB cache, but you better hurry!
Socket754 CPUs are drying up, soon there will be only Semprons...
Here is a (Canadian) link to CPU

Also quite affordable, and the best CPU your mobo could have.

Hi and thanks for the reply,I was looking at the 3700+ but it's too pricey,I am looking into the a64/3200+ (2.0ghz.1 mb.cache)I found at newegg.com for $140.00 or the a64/3400+ for $10.00 more also at newegg.Which would you recommend? I plan on using it for video encoding and gaming. Thanks again,B.W.

I trust your new CPU has only 754-pins (not 939-pins)?
Good luck.

i think the highest that the socket 754 athlons go is only 3400.. make sure that 3700 is definately a 754 pin before you buy it

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P
Google is your friend...
WorkComp: LAPTOP, intel celeron D 2.4GHz, 256MB DDR, 20GB hd. NO SCREEN IT WAS SAWN OFF :S (bag of crap)
