Ok, I used the FREE version of Rebuilder on Lethal Weapon (almost 7 gigs in size.) I created a "working" folder and an "output" folder and it took about 240 minutes total. I first ripped the movie with DVD Decrypter and selected those files as the source for Rebuilder. Everything seems to have worked correctly and I now have video files totaling about 4.3 Gigs in size. My question is...since I don't have Rebuilder Pro to create an ISO image, can I run these files thru Shrink without losing any qaulity? As a test I opened the Lethal Weapon video files thru Shrink and it said 100% on the qaulity. Is Shrink a good way to do this if I wanna hold off on getting Rebuilder Pro? Also, how much faster is CCE Basic vs. HC Mode? The $58 version is what I'm referring to. Do you Paypal the same guy that sells RB Pro? Finally, am I correct in assuming that I have successfully taken Lethal Weapon that's almost 7 gigs in size and re-encoded it to retain 100% quality and it's now 4.3 gig in size?
Thanks,
Keith

I use Imgtool classic with DVDD or Imgburn as well. For some reason, the iso created by Folder2iso would not play on my standalone, but the same files ran through Imgtool would....probably just me, but I stuck with what worked for me originally.

How is the qaulity not 100% if I did it correctly? I didn't actually run it thru Shrink yet, I just did a quick anaysis and hit abort.

Imgtool classic is a very good app for creating iso's
I have read mixed results w/ folder2iso but I've found no ill effects using it
you wiil be losing quality if you use shrink but whether you notice it or not only you can tell!
go pro is my best advice to you!

1st of all even though rebuider with hcenc or CCE are very good utilities (much better than shrink), anytime you compress a folder larger than 4.38 gb down to fit on a DVD5 you will loose some quality even though you might not notice it with rebuilder therefor you can not retain 100% quality unless the folder is smaller than 4.38 gb or you use DL media.
I too have had a problem with folder2iso just a few minutes ago. My set top player would not recognize the disc. 1st time this has happened. I reburned the video_ts folder with Nero and it played fine. Hmm (scratching my head). I'm going to try imgtool classic and see what happens with it.

I think Mort explained perfectly why your copy is not a 100% copy. Although I feel that by using DVD rebuilder you made the best back-up that you as a home user can make.

hey Mort...... correct me if I'm wrong (I know you will!).... but if DVD-RB worked correctly for dvdripper......and he got the video files in his destination folder and it's 4.3Gig in total.... can't he use Nero to burn the files or, like I do, use CopytoDVD? why would someone want to put the files through another program to get an ISO image? Duhhhhhhh?????
DVD-RB with CCE is a great program to get the best quality of a DVD that needs compression to a DVD-5!

He could burn them with Nero if he has it. But to make it completely free, he would want to turn the folder into an iso then burn with DVD Decrypter or IMGburn

@Ajp...... dvdripper said nothing about not wanting to spend money on a program. If he used DVD-RB already ..... he has a working copy of video files ready to burn to a DVD-5! Nero, CopyToDVD, and others will do the job... why put the files through more programming and maybe even lose some quality in doing so! DVD-RB already did the job!

@Ihoe He asked if he could use Shrink to make an ISO without losing quality, I showed him away to make the ISO he wanted to make. Also people don't need to ask for free. I know I would rather get something for free than pay for it.

I don't know,,maybe to use the best burning engine that there is @ no charge!
instead of the monstrosity that Nero has become I just bought a nec drive that came w/ a copy of Nero which went straight to the trash w/ the box!

Agreed....I have had much better luck burning with DVDD and ImgBurn than I have had with Nero, and in order to use these programs, an iso (or other image file) is necessary.

Hi IHoe,
Personally, if I didn't have a utility that would burn video_ts files, I would much rather use imgtool classic or folder2iso to convert the files to iso than run them through any transcoding software again. I would preferably fork out $25 for rb pro as it will build an iso folder for you (along with much more). This is only my opinion. I don't have any problem using Nero to burn video_ts files either but then again I already have Nero.

To Mort81,
Did you try the IMGTool classic to make that ISO? What was the result? Also, you said that you will lose some qaulity (albeit not noticable) when taking a dvd and making it 4.3 Gig...how much of a percentage loss are we talking? Can I get a link to the IMGTOOL programs? What is the difference between IMGTOOL and ImageBurn?

IMGtool classic makes the iso, imgburn burns the iso to disc. I provided the links earlier but here they are again

The amount of compression will vary from movie to movie, but DVD rebuilder should show yyou how much it has to compress the movie to make it fit on a DVD5. Next time look at all the info it gives and it should be in there somewhere. I have never used the free version so I don't know where it is in there. Depending if you first removed the extras with vobblanker it could be anywhere from 50% to as little as 99% compression (the higher the number the less compression).

Thanks AJP. You pretty much summed everything up. I might add that I personally feel that everone that gets involved in encoding/transcoding should also have a copy of Nero. I've had cases where for reasons unknown that the burned iso folder could not be recognized and therefor would not play but when the original video_ts folder was burned with Nero all was good. You can pick up a copy of Nero 6 oem suite 3 which does include recode 2 for about $15 http://www.xpcgear.com/nero66ste3.html

I agree about Nero, I don't like it and rarely use it, but I have the OEM version from when I purchased my NEC dvd burner
