Okay, I use nero all the time, and I am so sick of it taking so long.
When I add files to burn a dvd, like say some arrested development epsides which are in avi format, I can only fit like 4 20 minute episodes on a dvd-r and it says like 8 hours remaining. Is this normal for it to take this long or am i doing someting wrong??
I also could only fit 2 freakin CSI episodes on a dvd and took like 12 hours to burn. I mean I guess it was worth the wait cause they burnt perfectly, but damn the time it takes to burn is ridiculous!

It should be located in the Nero folder, I have Nero7 so I am not absolutely certain about Nero6.

Cut and paste to the rescue!!
Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt
Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt
These things record all burns, and we only need the last one. The burns are seperated by something like this
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======
Windows XP 5.1
IA32-xxxx-xxxx-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
that was from a Nero 6 log, but 7 looks much like that. Underneath the divider is the operating system, and right below that is the begining of the serial number. When posting a log, just include the last burn log, and edit out your serial numbers by typing xxxx over them.
Hi gwendolin!! You and binkie7 are doing a great job here at the Nero forum.. We can always use a womans touch here :) and i vanish from time to time..
**edit**
Note to self.. when it take 4 edits to get your post correct, you need to take a break, and either reduce, or increase, the chemical input to your brain.. somebody say something?? i keep hearing voices. Anybody else have that problem.. U 2? Thats weird..

Hi gwendolin!! Feel free to cut and paste it. I kept going back and looking it up as i had both versions for a while and it got confusing. Now i have it as a blog entry in my homepage, and that comes in handy. I got the idea from seeing creaky do it on some of his posts.
Shut up, im talking to gwendolin. Wait your turn.. The nerve of some ppl.. I bet U cut in lines too..

See in the post were it says burns will be seperated by a divider? Go to the last part of your log and post everything from the last divider down, removing the serial number, and leaving the rest..
I got the 6x burn ok part, but put the rest up, or is this a game of hide an seek?

It won't necessarily speed up the burn process, but it sounds like you are doing more than just burning. Transcoding can be an exhaustive process, and more memory will defitely help out the overall time of this process. Is the majority of the 8 hour process in the transcoding phase?
edit: We would need some system specs in order to tell you what kind of ram to buy, installing new Ram is a very simple process, just need to know what kind to buy. Sometimes some "mom and pop" computer stores will just install the ram for you when you buy it there, but I think places like Best Buy will charge you for the install, and it is literally a 2 minute (if that) process.

YES IT IS! that is definetly the problem
as for the computer it is older, its an HP pavilion model # 8665C, and I am assuming it has one memory stick in it??? Whatever it came with havent changed it. I did install a dvd burner and a new hard drive which shows up but it is not the master hard drive although I would like it to be. What do you think I could put in it to "speed it up" so to speak. Oh, and thanks to all that have helped, its very appreciated.

You are low on memory, to complete a successful burn you need at least 512meg RAM, suggest you add another 256meg. In the meantime close down all unnecessary progs including spyware.
Quote: Burn process completed successfully at 6x (8,310 KB/s)
For future burns slow speed to 4X
