I've had Matrix Infinity Green Dot in my PS2 for a couple of weeks now and I've backed up about 12 games. This morning while playing LA Rush, it froze during a loading screen. That was the first time I've had any of them do that. I then reset the PS2 and it said to insert a PS2 game. I opened the tray and closed it again. Three times since I've had it has it said the disc was invalid and I just opened the tray and closed it and it took. It isn't an inconvenience and I'm not complaining, I just want to make sure this isn't a sign that I've overheat the chip or something.

My DVDs are Taiyo Yuden, by the way.

It shouldn't be wore out after a few weeks. Maybe 1 of the wires are loose.

Pretty much same problem with mine, it did that one nite and then the next nite it brought up a red screen with Please insert an Offical Playstation or PLaystation disc.

I took it back to the person that installed it and it was the wire for the CD/DVD reader that was coming loose, so try that. I got mine fixed and haven't had a drama at all

I got my Matrix Infinity put in a few months ago for $80 and it has always sometimes given me the "Insert a Playstation Disc" message even on my real imports too (a couple times on regular real US PS2 Discs too). I just keep restarting until the game plays, do you guys think it got installed wrong?

It rarely freezes on any of the games though :)

God the thought of my $80 modchip ever dying is a horrible feeling, my games are my life and I feel terrible when my system has problems.

Do you guys hardly ever get the Red Screen "Insert a Playstation Disc" cuz I usually get it a lot.

As long as my modchip works, I will be okay. But if he installed my modchip wrong I'm going to be ticked cuz my 90 day warranty expired a long time ago.

if you installed it wrong, it would never play your backups. Have you checked all the wires for a loose one? Also, did you install the latest bios?

I just had him install it and that was that. I wouldn't know how to check for anything being loose ;(

I was only using it to play some PSX backups and real PS2 Imports, hopefully I will be playing my first PS2 backup soon.

I don't know anything about bios but I am willing to listen if you care to explain or link me somewhere else please.

Thank you very much

only other thing i can think of is that your laser needs a clean or is on the way out
using bad quality media will put more strain on the laser with a mod chip and will reduce its life span so i have been told

Yep, that's my laser gone. Getting the diode and coils inside replaced for £35-£40.

An occasional RSOD of death will happen with just about any modded console, but it should be like 3-5% of the time at most. What's the Media ID of the discs you're using? Is the chip's firmware up to date?

104. Q. I can't get my DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity to boot backups/imports, what's going on?
A. You need to flash the chip with the latest firmware to boot backups and imports.

Matrix Infinity: http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=news

Note: There are a ton of Matrix Infinity Clones out there. If you flash a Matrix Infinity clone with the official MI firmware, you'll fry the clone chip. That's a little gift from the Matrix Team to you for not researching and making sure you got a legit MI. After reading this FAQ, there's no excuse for ending up with a MI Clone.
Use Alcohol 120% to burn the bin file to CD-R.
Alcohol 120%: Alcohol 120%: http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_120_

Burn the Firmware to CD-R with these instructions:
1. Unzip the firmware.
2. Insert your blank disc.
3. Open Alcohol 120%.
4. Go to File-->Open and browse to the cue file. Double click it.
5. Once it's open under Alcohol 120%, right click the cue file and click image burning wizard.
6. Select your recorder, leave the write method alone, set the write speed to 4x, set the datatype to PS2, and click next.

91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

I can only assume my Chip's (I was told it was a matrix infinity, cost me $80 with installation, not sure if it is legit tho) Firmware (I have no idea what firmware is) isn't up to date since I've had it for like 4 months now.

And I am afraid I am hurting my laser since the most recent game I backupped was Tales of Destiny on a Memorex CD-R burned at 2X. Is it hard to clean a laser (my experience with cleaning discs are that they don't work for shit)?

I'm hoping to burn TOD II (ps2 jap) and beat that soon (I can't read Kanji and it sucks, looks too hard to learn). I will buy taiyo yuden 4x's for my ps2 jobs it seems.

My real problem is that I have AOL Dial-up, so I have to rely on friends to get the files. Alcohol 120% won't let our burn speed go beneath 8x on either of our comps ;( and my ps2 won't play those burns. My friend got the CloneCD free trial and burned a working copy at 2x (He says he can't find the real deal, so its a temp solution).

How do you guys store the games after you burn them? A zipper flipbook case? How long do the games usually last?

I'm just ticked cuz I bought Tales of Destiny and Final Fantasy Tactics Preowned and both of them didn't work, which is why I came here (plus, I don't have much $$).

Well if you're positive you have the real deal, then update the firmware. If not, then proceed at your own risk. Use better CD media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Memorex CD media blows. I store my games in a DVD case with sleeves and what not.
